Evaluation of Ristocetin–Willebrand Factor Assay and Ristocetin-induced Platelet Aggregation
American Journal of Clinical Pathology, 1975Normal subjects, patients with various bleeding disorders, and patients with von Willebrand's disease were studied. All patients with von Willebrand's disease had decreased levels of ristocetin-Willebrand factor (range, 0 to 41%) as compared with all other subjects (range, 79 to 202%). Ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation of platelet-rich plasma was

Ristocetin-induced aggregation of canine platelets
Thrombosis Research, 1980Abstract Both canine plasma and canine platelets have been reported to be unreactive in the ristocetin-induced platelet aggregation reaction that is commonly used to study the platelet-von Willebrand factor interaction. Because canine plasma was recently found to have ristocetin cofactor (RCF) activity with human platelets, we studied the RCF ...

On the structure and mode of action of the antibiotic ristocetin A
Journal of the Chemical Society, Perkin Transactions 1, 1979The antibiotics ristocetin A and ristomycin A are shown to be identical. It is concluded that ristocetin A is constituted from six sugars and an aglycone portion based on (i) a bis-ether containing three benzenoid rings, (ii) a fragment which on hydrolysis affords a 2′,4,6-trihydroxybiphenyl-2,3′-diyldiglycinate derivative, (iii) a previously isolated ...

ChemInform Abstract: AMINO ACID CONSTITUENTS OF RISTOCETIN A
Chemischer Informationsdienst, 1979AbstractAls Aminosäurebestandteile in der Struktur von Ristocetin A ‐ einem antibiotischen Glycopeptid aus Nocardia lurida, das die Biosynthese von Bakterienzellwänden stört ‐ werden anhand verschiedener Abbaureaktionen (Säurehydrolyse, Oxidation, Basenhydrolys) die Säuren (I) (Ristomycinsäure ), (II) (Actinoidinsäure) und (III ...

Ristocetin induces platelet aggregation: a morphological demonstration [PDF]
Changes in the morphology of human platelets induced by ristocetin in platelet‐rich plasma (PRP) have been analysed at the ultrastructural level by means of a tannic acid procedure. Studies were also undertaken to measure the release of serotonin. Modifications of the aggregation tests induced by apyrase, a monoclonal antibody (Mab) to GPIIb/ IIIa and ...

STAPHYLOCOCCIC ENDOCARDITIS TREATED WITH RISTOCETIN
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1958The treatment of endocarditis caused by Staphylococcus (Micrococcus) pyogenes var. aureus has become a challenging problem; therefore, two patients successfully treated with a new antibiotic agent, ristocetin, are reported on here. In these two patients, the infections were acquired in hospitals and, as might be expected, the staphylococci were ...

Willebrand Factor and Ristocetin I. MECHANISM OF RISTOCETIN‐INDUCED PLATELET AGGREGATION
British Journal of Haematology, 1974Summary. Ristocetin induces aggregation of normal platelet‐rich plasma over a wide range of concentrations. Low doses induce a biphasic response of which the first wave is not mediated by ADP and proceeds without the initial platelet shape change. The absence of aggregation in von Willebrand's disease results from the lack of a component, Willebrand ...

Clinical Evaluation of Ristocetin in Children
A.M.A. Journal of Diseases of Children, 1960Because of the serious nature of penicillin-resistant staphylococcal infections, there is a continuing need for effective antibacterial agents. Ristocetin (Spontin*), one of the newer antibiotics, is bactericidal and effective against staphylococci as well as other Gram-positive organisms.1-3The purpose of this study was to review our clinical ...

Destruction of the platelet aggregating activity of ristocetin A
Experientia, 1978Hydrolysis of ristocetin A in 0.1 N HCl at 37 degrees C for 2 h resulted in the loss of its ability to induce platelet aggregation in platelet-rich plasma derived from guinea-pigs and humans. However its antibiotic activity against Staph. aureus was not lost.
