Splicing messenger RNA precursors: branch sites and lariat RNAs
Trends in Biochemical Sciences, 1985Abstract The splicing of mRNA precursors proceeds through an unusual RNA structure: a lariat or tailed circular molecule where the 5′ end of the intervening sequence is attached to an internal residue via a 2′–5′ phosphodiester bond. The role of lariat formation and its possible significance are discussed.

Splicing and polyadenylylation at cryptic sites in RNA transcribed from pSV2-neo
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Structure and Expression, 1986Mapping the structures of RNAs transcribed from the chimeric plasmid pSV2-neo in transfected COS cells revealed discontinuities within the neo portion of the transcripts. Two cryptic 5' splice sites and three cryptic 3' splice sites were identified. The cryptic 5' splice sites matched 5 or 7 bases of the 5' consensus sequence.

An Overlap between Splicing Sites in RNA and Homo-Repeats in Human Proteins
Molecular Biology, 2019Proteins with homo-repeats of more than 4 amino acid residues in length were examined to understand whether some splicing sites in pre-mRNA may be attributed to homo-repeats in human proteins. The human proteome was found to contain a total of 404 proteins with homo-repeats that account for at least one splicing site in pre-mRNA.

Characterization of the branch site in lariat RNAs produced by splicing of mRNA precursors
Nature, 1985The branch site of lariat RNAs produced during the splicing of the first two late leader exons of adenovirus-2 has a structure of (formula; see text) There is a distinct complementarity between sequences preceding the adenosine at the branch site and the 5' terminus of the intervening sequence.

Identifying splicing sites in eukaryotic RNA: support vector machine approach
Computers in Biology and Medicine, 2003We introduce a new method for splicing sites prediction based on the theory of support vector machines (SVM). The SVM represents a new approach to supervised pattern classification and has been successfully applied to a wide range of pattern recognition problems.

Germline pathogenic variants in the DNA mismatch repair genes (MMR): MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, and PMS2, are causative of Lynch syndrome (LS). However, many of the variants mapping outside the invariant splice site positions (IVS ± 1, IVS ± 2) are classified as variants of unknown significance (VUS).

Structural Basis for Recognition of the Intron Branch Site RNA by Splicing Factor 1
Science, 2001During spliceosome assembly, splicing factor 1 (SF1) specifically recognizes the intron branch point sequence (BPS) UACUAAC in the pre-mRNA transcripts. We show that the KH-QUA2 region of SF1 defines an enlarged KH (hn RNP K) fold which is necessary and sufficient for BPS binding.

RNA sequences upstream of the 3' splice site repress splicing of mutantyeast ACT1 introns.
RNA (New York, N.Y.), 1996A yeast ACT1 intron in which both the first and last intron nucleotides are mutated, the /a-c/ intron, splices 10% as well as wild type. We selected for additional cis-acting mutations that improve the splicing of /a-c/ introns and recovered small deletions upstream of the 3' splice site.

SITE SELECTION BY THE TRANSFER RNA SPLICING ENDONUCLEASE OF XENOPUS-LAEVIS
1988To investigate the mechanism by which the purified Xenopus tRNA splicing endonuclease recognizes its splice sites, we utilized yeast pre-tRNA3Leu and pretRNA Phe variants constructed by in vitro mutagenesis. We found that the endonuclease interacts with conserved features of the mature tRNA domain.
