Impact of Road Sign on Traffic Congestion during Road Repair: A Cellular Automaton Model Study [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
This study investigates the impact of road signs on traffic congestion during road repairs using a cellular automaton (CA) model. The model simulates an urban dual-lane one-way road, incorporating a designated work zone.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Evaluating the Impact of V2V Warning Information on Driving Behavior Modification Using Empirical Connected Vehicle Data

open access: yesApplied Sciences
A connected vehicle (CV) enables vehicles to communicate not only with other vehicles but also the road infrastructure based on wireless communication technologies.

Impact of side traffic barrier features on the severity of run-off-road crashes involving horizontal curves on non-interstate roads

open access: yesInternational Journal of Transportation Science and Technology, 2021
Objective: Reviewing the literature of run-off-road (ROR) crashes, there is limited knowledge in terms of crashes involving side (longitudinal) traffic barriers on curved segments.

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Optimum road spacing of ground based skidding operations in Nowshahr, Iran

open access: yesCaspian Journal of Environmental Sciences, 2008
The optimum road spacing has been studied by many researches. It is an important step of forest road network planning. The goals of this study are determining the optimum road spacing in Kheiroudkenar forest of Nowshahr in Northern Iran and study of ...

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Spacing Chevrons on Horizontal Curves

open access: yes, 2005
The chevron alignment sign is an important traffic control device used to warn drivers of the severity of a curve by delineating the alignment of the road around that curve.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

A delay-based spacing policy for vehicle platooning:Analysis and control

open access: yes, 2017
Reducing inter-vehicular distances and the formation of groups of closely spaced vehicles have the potential to increase traffic flow, reduce congestion, and reduce fuel consumption.
