Coordinaton of Action and Perception in a Surveillance Robot [PDF]
This paper describes a system in which twin hierarchies for navigation and perception are controlled by a knowledge based supervisor. At the top level, these hierarchies contain collections procedures which implement the "skills" of the system in locomotion and spatial reasoning.

Speech and action: integration of action and language for mobile robots
2007 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems, 2007We describe the tight integration of incremental natural language understanding, goal management, and action processing in a complex robotic architecture, which is required for natural interactions between robots and humans. Specifically, the natural language components need to process utterances while they are still spoken to be able to initiate ...

Modelling the actions of an intervention robot
Proceedings 1992 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2003Reviews the inadequacies of models of robot actions, proposed in the literature for intervention tasks. The STRIPS-inspired model of robot actions defined in terms of pre-conditions and post-conditions is extended by defining conditions which qualify the execution contexts of the actions.

The Shadow robot mimics human actions
Industrial Robot: An International Journal, 2003The development and current specification for the Shadow Hand and Arm project are described. The Shadow robot has human like movements and uses air muscles to replicate the action of human muscles. This produces a robot mechanism that is compliant, intrinsically safe and suitable for use in direct contact with disabled and able bodied people.

Actions and Imagined Actions in Cognitive Robots
2010Natural/Artificial systems that are capable of utilizing thoughts at the service of their actions are gifted with the profound opportunity to mentally manipulate the causal structure of their physical interactions with the environment. A cognitive robot can in this way virtually reason about how an unstructured world should “change,” such that it ...

Scheduling Robotic Actions by Genetic Algorithms
Presence: Teleoperators and Virtual Environments, 1996A hybrid genetic algorithm is used to schedule tasks for a satellite that can be modeled as a robot whose goal is to retrieve objects from a two-dimensional field. The objective is to find a schedule that maximizes the value of objects retrieved. Typical of the real-world tasks to which this corresponds is the scheduling of ground contacts for a ...

An autonomous action robot which can turn its line of sight to face a person who calls out, can recognize the face of a person, and can perform various actions in response to commands. First, a sound emitted from a person or other sound source is detected by a sound detector, and the direction of the sound source is specified based on the detected ...

Programming robotic agents with action descriptions
2017 IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS), 2017This paper tackles the problem of generalizing robot control programs over multiple objects, tasks and environments, based on the concept of action descriptions. These are abstract, general, semantic descriptions of an action that are augmented during execution with subsymbolic parameters specific to the context at hand.

An architecture for action selection in robotic soccer
Proceedings of the fifth international conference on Autonomous agents, 2001CMUnited-99 was the 1999 RoboCup robotic soccer simulator league champion. In the RoboCup-2000 competition, CMUnited-99 was entered again and despite being publicly available for the entire year, it still finished in 4th place. This paper presents some of the key elements behind \attcmunited, one of the three teams that finished ahead of CMUnited-99 ...
