A comparative study of different induction techniques (Propofol-Placebo, Propofol-Ephedrine and Propofol- Placebo-Crystalloid) on intubating conditions after rocuronium administration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This was a prospective randomized double blind controlled study to compare intubating conditions at 60 seconds with rocuronium 0.6 mg/kg by using three different induction techniques: propofol-placebo (PP), propofol-ephedrine (PE) and propofol ...

Cerebral and cardiovascular effects of analgesic doses of ketamine during a target controlled general anesthesia: a prospective randomized study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Introduction: Ketamine is increasingly being used in various pain settings. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of an analgesic dose of ketamine in the bispectral index (BIS), spectral edge frequency (SEF-95), density spectral array (DSA),

Exercise‐Induced Cardiac Lymphatic Remodeling Mitigates Inflammation in the Aging Heart

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
Exercise improves cardiac lymphatic architecture and function in the aged mouse. Aged hearts show reduced lymphatic vascular density, more dilated vessels, and increased peri‐lymphatic inflammation and fibrosis. Exercise training of the aged mouse increases lymph vessel density and sprouting, reverses their dilation, reduces inflammation and fibrosis ...

Endotypes in Immune Mediated Drug Reactions: Present and Future of Relevant Biomarkers. An EAACI Task Force Report

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drug‐induced immune reactions are an important burden for patients and health systems. They can be classified into immediate‐drug hypersensitivity reactions (IDHRs) and delayed‐DHRs (DDHRs) based on their phenotype. Drugs do not always behave as allergens and need to bind to proteins, forming adducts.

'Jaws of steel' after rocuronium

open access: yesIndian Journal of Anaesthesia, 2016
Sir, A 60-year-old lady was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of our hospital with complaints of shortness of breath. She was a diagnosed case of dilated cardiomyopathy with left ventricular failure. Arterial blood gas analysis revealed severe hypoxia with metabolic acidosis. Adrenaline infusion was started to optimise blood pressure.

Less Invasive Surfactant Administration Versus Intubate‐Surfactant‐Extubate: Associated With Reduced Mechanical Ventilation in Extremely Preterm Infants

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To compare less invasive surfactant administration (LISA) and intubation‐surfactant‐extubation (INSURE) in infants born before 28 weeks gestational age (GA) by the need for mechanical ventilation (MV). Methods LISA was introduced in 2017 in our unit without formal prior LISA‐specific training as an equal alternative to INSURE.

Do Complexity Measures of Frontal EEG Distinguish Loss of Consciousness in Geriatric Patients Under Anesthesia? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
While geriatric patients have a high likelihood of requiring anesthesia, they carry an increased risk for adverse cognitive outcomes from its use. Previous work suggests this could be mitigated by better intraoperative monitoring using indexes defined by

Smoking increases the requirement for rocuronium [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Anaesthesia, 1998
To compare the potency of rocuronium in non-smokers and smokers during general anaesthesia. In a randomized, open clinical study, 40 patients, 17-62 yr of age, were anaesthetized with propofol, alfentanil and nitrous oxide in oxygen. After obtaining individual dose-response curves for rocuronium, bolus doses of rocuronium were given to maintain ...
