Tissue-specific and developmental regulation of rod opsin chimeric genes in transgenic mice
Neuron, 1991Chimeric gene fusions between 4.4 kb of rod opsin 5' flanking sequence fused to a diphtheria toxin gene and 4.4 kb or 500 bp of rod opsin 5' flanking sequence fused to the E. coli IacZ gene were used to generate transgenic mice for analysis of cell type-specific expression and temporal and spatial distribution of reporter gene product during retinal ...

all-trans-Retinal Forms a Visible-Absorbing Pigment with Human Rod Opsin
Biochemistry, 2001Rhodopsin activation elicits transmembrane currents due to electrostatic events associated with conformational changes. We employed the sensitive rhodopsin early receptor current approach to reevaluate whether all-trans-retinal can form a visual pigment with rod opsin apoprotein.

Immunocytochemical localization of opsin in rod photoreceptors during periods of rapid disc assembly
Journal of Neurocytology, 1995Transport of opsin from photoreceptor inner to outer segments has been assumed to occur via the connecting cilium, the only permanent structural connection between these two regions. However, in prior work, little or no immunoreactive opsin has been detected in the cilium, despite the high rate of transport of this protein.
