Dual‐Mode Magnetic Elastomer for On‐Demand Motion and Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐mode magnetic elastomer is introduced, enabling DC field‐driven programmable actuation and AC field‐driven magnetothermal degradation. GHz‐range magnetic fields generate ultrafast heating of magnetic nanoparticles that activates cleavage of the silicone elastomer matrix.

Investigation of the Scale Effects on Roll Motion for The Ship Bettica Using Numerical Simulation

open access: yesPolish Maritime Research
In this paper, we focus on analysing scale effects on the roll motion of the Italian ship Bettica using a numerical method. First, the roll decay motion of the ship is simulated at both the model scale and full scale, and the predicted results are ...

Roll motion characteristics of a polar research ship with ice accumulation in beam waves

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
Stability of polar vessels could be deteriorated due to ice accumulation, making it crucial to investigate the dynamic behavior of the vessel under harsh polar conditions. In this work, the effect of ice accumulation on the roll motion characteristics of

Interpolating the Stage of Exponential Expansion in the Early Universe: a possible alternative with no reheating

open access: yes, 1996
In the standard picture, the inflationary universe is in a supercooled state which ends with a short time, large scale reheating period, after which the universe goes into a radiation dominated stage.

Chromo-Natural Inflation: Natural inflation on a steep potential with classical non-Abelian gauge fields

open access: yes, 2012
We propose a model for inflation consisting of an axionic scalar field coupled to a set of three non-Abelian gauge fields. Our model's novel requirement is that the gauge fields begin inflation with a rotationally invariant vacuum expectation value (VEV)

Remote Inflation: Hybrid-like inflation without hybrid-type potential [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A new scenario of hybrid-like inflation is considered without using hybrid-type potential. Radiation raised continuously by a dissipating inflaton field keeps symmetry restoration in a remote sector, and the false-vacuum energy of the remote sector ...
