Root characteristics in salt tolerance.

open access: yesRoot Research, 2003
The mechanisms of salt tolerance in plants were reviewed focusing on root characteristics of salt-tolerant cultivars under saline conditions. The salt-tolerant traits were characterized as greater root growth, higher efficiency in water uptake, lower Na+ permeability, better root osmotic adjustment, and higher root pressure.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

A matrix with real characteristic roots

open access: yesJournal of Research of the National Bureau of Standards, 1956
In this note we prove the conjecture of J. D. Hoffman and B . M. Axilrod that a matrix with these properties has only real cha, racteristic roots and that these characteristic roots lie between zero and twice the maximum diagonal element. The second statement is a direct consequence of the first and properties (1), (2), and (3) by the theorem of S ...

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Arc motion and gas flow in current limiting circuit breakers operating with a low contact switching velocity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Arc motion in low voltage (240 VAC) high current (10/sup 3/-10/sup 4/A.) current limiting-circuit breakers is dominated by arc root mobility. The mobility is influenced by the gas flow and gas composition in the contact region, but there is little ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
