Decomposition of root exudates in soil

Folia Microbiologica, 1966
The conversion of synthetic root exudates, i.e. of a mixture of amino acids, organic acids and sugars, added to soil in a single dose or continuously, was studied. After the addition of a single dose, the root exudates were gradually mineralized and after 76 hours, 85% of carbon had been released in the form of carbon dioxide.

Dynamics of root exudates

2011

Root Exudation in Relation to Inoculation with Rhizobia

Zentralblatt für Bakteriologie, Parasitenkunde, Infektionskrankheiten und Hygiene. Zweite Naturwissenschaftliche Abteilung: Allgemeine, Landwirtschaftliche und Technische Mikrobiologie, 1976
Summary Root exudates of lucerne (Medicago sativa L.) and urid (Phaseolus mungo L.) were analyzed for reducing and non-reducing sugars, total and ortho-dihydroxy phenols, amino-nitrogen, polygalacturonase, and pectin methyl esterase. Upon inoculation with Rhizobium, there was an increase in the exudation of non-reducing sugars, ortho-dihydroxy ...

Proteoid Roots and Exudation of Proteases by Plant Roots

2011
Among the numerous strategies for improving P or N uptake by plants, development of proteoid roots and exudation of proteases can be found. Proteoid roots, which develop as a response to P deficiency during exudative burst secrete carboxylates and acid phosphatase, which improves P uptake.

Factors Affecting Root Exudation

1971
Publisher Summary The absorption and desorption of substances that are extremely diverse in molecular size and in physicochemical and biological properties occur at the root surface. Substances (other than water) which are released from plant surfaces have been termed as “exudates” by many investigators, regardless of whether their appearance on the ...

Genetic control of root exudation

Plant and Soil, 2002
The literature on genetics of root exudation and on genotypic differences in qualitative and quantitative composition of root exudates in crop and native plant species was critically assessed. Differences in exudation have been reported for genotypes that differ in tolerance to nutrient deficiencies, ion toxicities, and pathogen attack.

Allelochemicals in Root Exudates of Maize

1998
Root exudation of biologically active compounds plays an important role in the interaction of higher plants with the soil ecosystem. This includes, for instance, the exudation of chemical signals for the interaction of plants with symbiotic microorganisms as well as the exudation of antimicrobial substances for plant defense against soil-borne ...

Root Exudates and Nutrient Cycling

2007
In addition to their role as organs for anchorage in soil, soil exploitation, and uptake of water and nutrients, plant roots can modify the physico-chemical conditions in the surrounding soil via alterations of root activity. The soil volume that is directly or indirectly influenced by the activity of plant roots is called the rhizosphere (Hinsinger ...
