Rootstock impacts on citrus flush dynamics, vegetative growth, and Diaphorina citri infestation and dispersion: Implications for huanglongbing management

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Dwarfing citrus rootstocks restrict flush shoot growth on the scion, thereby reducing Asian citrus psyllid infestation, dispersal, and huanglongbing (HLB) progression. These findings support the use of dwarfing rootstocks as an effective cultural strategy in integrated HLB management for citrus orchards.

Novel citrus hybrids incorporating Australian lime genetics: development of HLB-tolerant citrus rootstocks and physiological changes in ‘Valencia’ sweet orange scions

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Citrus greening disease, or Huanglongbing (HLB), is the most destructive disease affecting citrus crops worldwide. All commercially cultivated citrus varieties are highly susceptible to HLB, and currently, no effective treatments exist.

Grass species and climatic season impact on Rhipicephalus microplus temporal abundance in a tropical region

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
The interaction between grass species and climatic season shapes the population dynamics of the cattle tick, Rhipicephalus microplus. This information highlights the potential of forage species to influence off‐host tick dynamics. Additionally, minimum temperature and minimum relative humidity were the most influential microclimatic predictors of ...

Combined Metabolomics and Network Pharmacology Analysis Reveal the Effect of Rootstocks on Anthocyanins, Lipids, and Potential Pharmacological Ingredients of Tarroco Blood Orange (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck)

open access: yesPlants
The benefits of citrus fruits are strongly associated with their secondary metabolites. In this study, we conducted widely targeted metabolomics analyses to compare the variability of the ingredients in four scion–rootstock combinations.

Indian River Millennium Block Shows Rootstock Effects

open access: yesEDIS, 2021
In the last decade, huanglongbing (HLB) has reduced production of Florida grapefruit by 75%, mandarin by 78% and sweet orange by 52%. This decrease is significant for the Indian River District, which produces approximately 80% of the total grapefruit ...

Bt agave: why it is time to explore a new biotechnological frontier

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Drylands cover 41% of Earth, requiring sustainable crops. Agave, drought‐ and heat‐adapted, offers high‐value products with low water needs. Pests limit yield, yet Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) Cry proteins, successful in other plants, remain unexploited in Agave.

Evaluation of electrolyzed water to control fungal trunk pathogens in grapevine nurseries

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 1740-1751, April 2025.
Electrolyzed water treatments could have promising applications in the grapevine nursery process to prevent or reduce infections caused by fungal trunk pathogens on grapevine propagation material. Abstract BACKGROUND Grapevine producers demand solutions to control fungal trunk pathogens (FTPs) in nurseries.

Influência de substratos e fungos micorrízicos arbusculares no desenvolvimento vegetativo do porta-enxerto flying dragon. (Poncirus trifoliata, var. montruosa Swing.) Influence of growing media and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi in the vegetative development of flying dragon (Poncirus trifoliata, var. monstruosa Swing.) rootstock

Steaming soil is effective in eliminating invasive alien plants (IAPs) – part I: effect of exposure method

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2032-2039, April 2025.
As regulations on chemical pesticides become more stringent, it is likely that there will be interest in water steam as an alternative approach for soil disinfestation. This study investigated the feasibility of utilizing a soil steaming device for thermal control of selected invasive alien plants and showed a promising mortality rate for their ...
