Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Nonlinear Normal Modes of a Rotating Shaft Based on the Invariant Manifold Method
The nonlinear normal mode methodology is generalized to the study of a rotating shaft supported by two short journal bearings. For rotating shafts, nonlinearities are generated by forces arising from the supporting hydraulic bearings.

Resonance of Fofonoff's Mode in a Rotated Basin
Abstract Fofonoff solutions to the inviscid barotropic potential vorticity equation are found for the steady, free flow in a basin rotated at an arbitrary angle to a latitude circle. These solutions am used to study the inertial recirculation of the subtropical gyre, which is forced by anomalously low values of potential vorticity within the separated ...

This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Case Study of Pump Failure Due to Rotor-Stator Interaction
Fluiddynamic interaction between rotor and stator generates local pressure fluctuation and can be a cause ofstructural vibration of turbomachines. The interaction produces a spatial distribution of pressure fluctuation with a certain diametrical mode ...

Design of online fault diagnosis and early warning system for coal mine rotating machinery
In view of problems that existing coal mine machinery online monitoring and diagnosis technology did not realize online extraction of fault characteristics and automatic identification of fault types, an online fault diagnosis and early warning system ...

Fast rotation and acoustic modes
In this contribution, we describe recent progress in modelling acoustic pulsations of rapidly rotating stars. We then go on to describe very recent attempts at interpreting pulsation spectra in two observed stars. These make use of multi-colour mode visibilities, mode excitation, and pulsation frequencies in order to con-strain the identification of ...
