Supramolecular Mechanophore Additives Enable Mechanochromic Hydrogels

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A supramolecular loop‐forming mechanophore featuring a quencher and an emitter is incorporated as a water‐soluble macromolecular additive into hydrogels. In the stress‐free state, intramolecular charge‐transfer interactions fold the loop and quench fluorescence.

Synthesis of an organic-soluble π-conjugated [3]rotaxane via rotation of glucopyranose units in permethylated β-cyclodextrin

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2014
We synthesized symmetrically insulated oligo(para-phenylene) and oligothiophene with a pseudo-linked [3]rotaxane structure by full rotation of glucopyranose units via a flipping (tumbling) mechanism in the π-conjugated guest having two permethylated β ...

Self-assembly of [2]Rotaxane Exploiting Reversible Pt(II)- Pyridine Coordinate Bonds

open access: yesMolecules, 2004
A dinuclear self-assembled cationic macrocycle based on Pt(II)-N(pyridine) coordinative bonds and having competitive triflate anions, as metal counterions, is used in the construction of [2]rotaxane and [2]pseudorotaxane architectures assisted by ...

The effect of permodified cyclodextrins encapsulation on the photophysical properties of a polyfluorene with randomly distributed electron-donor and rotaxane electron-acceptor units

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2014
We report on the synthesis as well as the optical, electrochemical and morphological properties of two polyrotaxanes (4a and 4b), which consist of electron-accepting 9,9-dicyanomethylenefluorene 1 as an inclusion complex in persilylated β- or γ ...

Photochromic rotaxanes and pseudorotaxanes

open access: yesPhotochemical & Photobiological Sciences, 2019
Among stimulus-responsive molecular ring-on-thread rotaxanes and pseudorotaxanes, variants incorporating photochromic sub-units are attracting considerable attention as their properties and structure can be remotely and precisely controlled, additionally without producing chemical waste. The focus herein is on photoswitching-driven assembly/disassembly

Triply Threaded [4]Rotaxanes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2016
[4]Rotaxanes featuring three axles threaded through a single ring have been prepared through active metal template synthesis. Nickel-catalyzed sp(3)-sp(3) homocouplings of alkyl bromide "half-threads" through 37- and 38-membered 2,2':6',2″-terpyridyl macrocycles generate triply threaded [4]rotaxanes in up to 11% yield.

Remote Control of the Synthesis of a [2]Rotaxane and its Shuttling via Metal‐Ion Translocation

open access: yesChemistryOpen, 2019
Remote control in an eight‐component network commanded both the synthesis and shuttling of a [2]rotaxane via metal‐ion translocation, the latter being easily monitored by distinct colorimetric and fluorimetric signals.

One-Pot Syntheses of [c2]Daisy-Chain Rotaxane Networks via Thiol-Ene Reaction and Its Application to Gel Electrolyte for Secondary Battery

open access: yesReactions
A new topological material, the [c2]daisy-chain rotaxane network, was successfully synthesized via a thiol-ene reaction between a [c2]daisy-chain rotaxane, which consists of a host–guest compound (H–G compound) where a crown ether and a secondary ...

Mechanically interlocked molecular architectures of valinomycin as cancer targeted prodrugs

open access: yesNano Select, 2022
Macrocyclic drugs are promising agents for treating a variety of diseases. However, these compounds usually present delivery limitations, such as low tissue selectivity and poor cellular uptake, which may impair efficacy and clinical translation.

Nanohoop Rotaxane Design to Enhance Selectivity of Reaction Based Probes: A Proof of Principle Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
A novel fluorescent probe design based on the interlocking of a reactive thread in a rigid nanohoop fluorophore is reported. This rotaxane design leads to size-selective sensing of thiolates in organic solution.
