Valeriana officinalis attenuates the rotenone-induced toxicity in Drosophila melanogaster
In this study, we investigated the potential protective effects of Valeriana officinalis (V. officinalis) against the toxicity induced by rotenone in Drosophila melanogaster (D. melanogaster). Adult wild-type flies were concomitantly exposed to rotenone (

Carcinogenesis with the insecticide rotenone
Life Sciences, 1983Rotenone is an insecticide which has been used extensively for a long time, and is now widely used in the U.S.A. and other industrialized countries. Rotenone is used mainly as an agricultural insecticide, household garden insecticide and water plant pesticide. Through these uses, rotenone may now be reaching the human male and female in these countries

Abstract Rotenone and rotenoids, which are found in several strains of the Derris (e.g., Derris elliptica) and Lonchocarpus (e.g., Lonchocarpus utilis, L. urucu, L. nicou) genera (9), have been used by native people as a fish poison. In recent times, rotenone has been employed extensively as an agricultural and household insecticide ...

A new synthesis of (–)-rotenone (1) has been accomplished. Decarboxylation and Vilsmeier formylation of (–)-tubaic acid (3) afforded (–)-tubaaldehyde (2) which was the key intermediate of (–)-rotenone synthesis. Condensation of 2 and Grignard reagent of phenyl 2-propynyl ether (5) and subsequent oxidation afforded (–)-1-(2,3-dihydro-4-hydroxy-2 ...

Mechanism of the Physiological Action of Rotenone
Nature, 1960ROTENONE has been widely used as a poison for the extinction of fish populations. Its action was earlier ascribed to a histolysis of the gills1 and a blocking of the circulation2 in the gills. Recently, one of us3 has demonstrated that these effects are secondary changes due to advanced stages of poisoning.
