Moving from Conventional Roundabouts to Turbo-roundabouts

open access: yesProcedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2014
AbstractThis paper introduces the turbo-roundabout concept and compares its performance with the conventional double-lane roundabout in terms of safety and capacity. While researchers agree as to the safety benefits of turbo-roundabouts, improvement in terms of capacity is still open to discussion. The application of a new calculation method shows that

Analyses of maximum-speed path definition at single-lane roundabouts

open access: yesJournal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering (English ed. Online), 2018
The process of designing roundabouts is an iterative process through which, in several checks, the design elements of a roundabout get optimized. Existing regulations for roundabouts involve swept path analyses, sight distance analyses and speed analyses

Heterozygous loss‐of‐function alleles associate the conserved 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease EXOSC10 with hypersensitivity to the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
EXOSC10, an essential nuclear RNA exosome‐associated 3′‐5′ exoribonuclease, is inhibited by the anticancer drug 5‐fluorouracil (5‐FU), and EXOSC10 depletion increases 5‐FU sensitivity. The colon‐cancer variant EXOSC10S402T, located in a proteolysis motif, is stable and nuclear but nonfunctional in vivo.

Identification of Risk Factors Associated with Fatal Intersection Crashes and Assessment of the In-Service Safety Performance of Signalized Intersections and Roundabouts in Abu Dhabi

open access: yesSafety, 2021
Several research studies conducted in North America and Europe have consistently shown that converting signalized intersections into roundabouts leads to safety benefits.

Turbo-roundabouts vs Roundabouts Performance Level

open access: yesProcedia - Social and Behavioral Sciences, 2012
AbstractIn this paper the performance level of basic turbo-roundabouts and double-lane roundabouts are compared. Cowan's M3 headway distribution was chosen to take into account bunched vehicles moving along each circulating lane; the Hagring model was adopted to evaluate entry capacity both at turbo-roundabout and at double-lane roundabout. The ...

Evaluating the effect of γ‐oryzanol on MASLD pathology using a medaka fish model

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores a liver disease called MASLD, which is increasing worldwide and can lead to serious damage. Researchers used medaka fish instead of rodents to test a food compound, γ‐oryzanol. Fish fed this compound had less liver fat and healthier gut bacteria.

High Health Care Utilization Preceding Diagnosis With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Although early diagnosis improves long‐term outcomes, patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) often experience prolonged, circuitous paths to diagnosis. To inform diagnostic improvement, we sought to characterize health care utilization in the year preceding diagnosis. Methods We identified 10,021 patients with an incident diagnosis

Developing a method of multi-lane roundabouts capacity

open access: yesВестник СибАДИ, 2023
Introduction. In recent years a number of methodological and regulatory documents have been developed for public road roundabouts in the Russian Federation. In particular it was proposed to evaluate the quality of traffic management at roundabouts by the

Zein‐Based Adhesives: Sustainable Extraction and Application in Bioadhesive Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Zein is extracted from corn gluten meal using a simple and scalable process with high yield (~90%). The resulting protein is applied in bioadhesives modified with Ca2+ and Fe3+ ions, exhibiting substrate‐dependent adhesion. The findings demonstrate competitive bonding performance and highlight the role of ionic interactions in tuning adhesion ...
