Incidence and severity of self-reported chemotherapy side effects in routine care: A prospective cohort study

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Aim Chemotherapy side effects are often reported in clinical trials; however, there is little evidence about their incidence in routine clinical care. The objective of this study was to describe the frequency and severity of patient-reported chemotherapy

Expression and DNA methylation of 20S proteasome subunits as prognostic and resistance markers in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Comprehensive analysis of genomic mutations, gene expression, DNA methylation, and pathway analysis of TCGA data was carried out to define cancer types in which proteasome subunits expression is associated with worse survival. Albeit the effect of specific proteasome subunits on cellular function, the main role of the proteasome is better evaluated ...

Landscape of BRAF transcript variants in human cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We investigate the annotation of BRAF variants, focusing on protein‐coding BRAF‐220 (formerly BRAF‐reference) and BRAF‐204 (BRAF‐X1). The IsoWorm pipeline allows us to quantify these variants in human cancer, starting from RNA‐sequencing data. BRAF‐204 is more abundant than BRAF‐220 and impacts patient survival.

Selective versus routine use of episiotomy for vaginal birth

open access: yesCochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, 2017
Background Some clinicians believe that routine episiotomy, a surgical cut of the vagina and perineum, will prevent serious tears during childbirth. On the other hand, an episiotomy guarantees perineal trauma and sutures. Objectives To assess the effects

Routine dipstick urinalysis in daily practice of Belgian occupational physicians [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: Little work has been done to assess the quality of health care and the use of evidence-based methods by occupational physicians in Belgium. Therefore, the main objective is to describe one aspect of occupational health assessments, namely the

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Circulating tumor DNA monitoring and blood tumor mutational burden in patients with metastatic solid tumors treated with atezolizumab

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In patients treated with atezolizumab as a part of the MyPathway (NCT02091141) trial, pre‐treatment ctDNA tumor fraction at high levels was associated with poor outcomes (radiographic response, progression‐free survival, and overall survival) but better sensitivity for blood tumor mutational burden (bTMB).
