Experimental Study and ANN Dual-Time Scale Perturbation Model of Electrokinetic Properties of Microbiota [PDF]
[Abstract] The electrokinetic properties of the rumen microbiota are involved in cell surface adhesion and microbial metabolism. An in vitro study was carried out in batch culture to determine the effects of three levels of special surface area (SSA) of ...

Feeding South African Mutton Merino lambs low‐NDF lucerne hay diets improved nutrient digestibility, energy utilisation, growth efficiency, and carcass quality. Despite lower intake at the lowest NDF level, fibre digestibility and feed conversion improved, indicating that highly digestible, low‐NDF finishing diets enhance lamb growth and carcass traits.

Composition and Similarity of Bovine Rumen Microbiota across Individual Animals
The bovine rumen houses a complex microbiota which is responsible for cattle's remarkable ability to convert indigestible plant mass into food products. Despite this ecosystem's enormous significance for humans, the composition and similarity of bacterial communities across different animals and the possible presence of some bacterial taxa in all ...

Rumen microbiota and its relation to fermentation in lactose-fed calves
In our previous studies, we revealed the effect of lactose inclusion in calf starters on the growth performance and gut development of calves. We conducted the present study as a follow-up study to identify the shift in rumen microbiota and its relation to rumen fermentation when calves are fed a lactose-containing starter.

Predicting feed efficiency traits in growing lambs from their ruminal microbiota
Selecting feed-efficient sheep could improve the sustainability of this livestock production. However, most sheep breeding companies cannot afford to record feed intake to select feed-efficient animals. Past studies underlined the potential of omics data,

Hydrogel Composites and Their Potential Application in Animal Production and Health
With emerging concerns about environmental contamination and safe animal production practices for increased animal welfare, research has increased in search of alternatives to promote sustainable production. The application of naturally derived hydrogels presents a great opportunity for exploration and application for animal production purposes ...

Association between diet and rumen microbiota in wild roe deer
ABSTRACT The association between diet and the rumen microbiota for wild animals remains largely unexplored. Here, we explored this association using a combination of 16S rRNA gene sequencing to determine the prokaryote microbiota and 18S rRNA gene sequencing to determine the dietary components for wild roe deer. These analyses revealed a

Development of an UPLC-MS/MS method for the analysis of mycotoxins in rumen fluid with and without maize silage emphasizes the importance of using matrix-matched calibration [PDF]
Ruminants are less susceptible to the effects of mycotoxins than monogastric animals as their rumen microbiota are claimed to degrade and/or deactivate at least some of these toxic compounds. However, the mycotoxin degradation is not well-known yet.

Dietary selenium (Se) deficiency is recognized as a global problem, and exogenous Se supplementation can effectively enrich its levels in animal bodies. Offal tissues are equally important as meat in Se enrichment. Varying properties among Se species require information beyond total Se concentration to fully evaluate health risk/benefits.
