Rupture process of the 2023 MW 6.1 Jishishan (China) earthquake in a compressional stress regime and implications for seismic hazards

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk
On 18 December 2023, an MW 6.1 earthquake struck Jishishan County, China, and occurred on a blind thrust fault at the northeastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau.

Star polymers rupture induced by constant forces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this work, we study the breakage process of an unknotted three-arm star-shaped polymer when it is pulled from its free ends by a constant force. The star polymer configuration is described through an array of monomers coupled by anharmonic bonds ...

Prevalence and Trajectory of Household Material Hardship Among Children With Advanced Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Families of children with advanced cancer living in poverty experience inferior outcomes including poor parent mental health and worse child quality of life. Household material hardship (HMH: food, housing, transportation, and/or utility insecurity) is a modifiable poverty exposure—and potential intervention target—that ...

Investigation on Rupture Initiation and Propagation of Traffic Tunnel under Seismic Excitation Based on Acoustic Emission Technology

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Traffic tunnels are important engineering structures in transportation, and their stability is critical to traffic safety. In particular, when these tunnels are in an earthquake-prone area, the rupture process under seismic excitation needs to be studied

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Dual Mechanism Transition Controls Rupture Development of Large Deep Earthquakes

open access: yesAGU Advances
Deep earthquakes at depths below 500 km are under prohibitive pressure and temperature conditions for brittle failure. Individual events show diverse rupture behaviors and a coherent mechanism to explain their rupture nucleation, propagation, and ...

Quick output parameters related to the 2 December 2023 MW7.6 Mindanao, Philippines earthquake

open access: yes地震科学进展
At 22:37 on December 2, 2023 (Beijing time), a M7.6 earthquake occurred in the eastern waters of Mindanao,Philippines. The Institute of Geophysics, China Earthquake Administration initiated the response mechanism after this earthquake and organized ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Role of a Hidden Fault in the Early Process of the 2024 Mw7.5 Noto Peninsula Earthquake

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The 2024 Mw 7.5 Noto Peninsula, Japan, earthquake was initiated within the source region of intense swarm activity. To reveal the mainshock early process, we relocated the earthquake hypocenters and found that many key phenomena, including the mainshock ...
