Experiments with the long-term rumen simulation technique (Rusitec); response to supplementation of basal rations [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Nutrition, 1979
1. It is shown that a basal roughage diet can be successfully supplemented with glucose, as long as nitrogen is not limiting. Lack of N depresses the digestibility of the basal ration, results in incomplete fermentation and the increased recoveries of N are consistent with fixation of atmospheric N2.2.

The Type of Forage Substrate Preparation Included as Substrate in a RUSITEC System Affects the Ruminal Microbiota and Fermentation Characteristics

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
In vitro fermentation systems such as the rumen simulation technique (RUSITEC) are frequently used to assess dietary manipulations in livestock, thereby limiting the use of live animals.

El gas metano en la producción ganadera y alternativas para medir sus emisiones y aminorar su impacto a nivel ambiental y productivo The gas methane in the cattle production and alternative to measure its emissions and to lessen its impact at environmental and productive level

The Effects of Cinnamaldehyde, Monensin and Quebracho Condensed Tannin on Rumen Fermentation, Biohydrogenation and Bacteria in Continuous Culture System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effects of different feed additives (cinnamaldehyde, monensin, and quebracho condensed tannin extract) on fermentation, trans fatty acids (FA) formation and selected strains of rumen bacteria.

A Mixture of Prebiotics, Essential Oil Blends, and Onion Peel Did Not Affect Greenhouse Gas Emissions or Nutrient Degradability, but Altered Volatile Fatty Acids Production in Dairy Cows Using Rumen Simulation Technique (RUSITEC)

open access: yesFermentation
This study evaluated the synergistic effects of prebiotics containing galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) and/or mannan oligosaccharides (MOS), essential oil blend (EOB), and onion peel (OPE) on fermentation characteristics using the rumen simulation ...

Microbial rDNA sequences as markers to determine microbial synthesis in Rusitec fermenters: A comparison with 15N [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Microbial rDNA sequences have been proposed as potential internal markers to determine microbial synthesis in the rumen. The objective of this experiment was to compare values of microbial growth determined using 15N as external marker with ...

FERMENTATION DYNAMICS AND METHANE PRODUCTION OF DIETS BASED ON Brachiaria humidicola WITH HIGH INCLUSION LEVELS OF Enterolobium schomburgkii AND Senna occidentalis IN A RUSITEC SYSTEM

open access: yesTropical and Subtropical Agroecosystems, 2018
Fermentative characteristics and methane production of diets with high inclusion of Enterolobium schomburgkii and Senna occidentalis plants on a Brachiaria humidicola based diet were studied, using the semi-continuous ruminal fermentation system (Rusitec)

Shifts in microbial populations in Rusitec fermenters as affected by the type of diet and impact of the method for estimating microbial growth (15N v. microbial DNA)

open access: yesAnimal, 2017
Rusitec fermenters are in vitro systems widely used to study ruminal fermentation, but little is known about the microbial populations establishing in them.
