Combinatorial aspects of extensions of Kronecker modules [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Let kK be the path algebra of the Kronecker quiver and consider the category of finite dimensional right modules over kK (called Kronecker modules). We prove that extensions of Kronecker modules are field independent up to Segre classes, so they can be ...

A Functionally Conserved Enhancer is Critical for PGC1A Expression and Thermogenesis in Brown Fat

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An evolutionarily conserved enhancer controls PGC1A expression and thermogenic activation in brown adipose tissue. Integrative multi‐omics analyses identify two BAT‐specific enhancers, with PGC1A‐En1 functioning as the dominant regulatory element that maintains thermogenic capacity across species.

Nuclear Receptors, RXR, and the Big Bang [PDF]

open access: yesCell, 2014
Isolation of genes encoding the receptors for steroids, retinoids, vitamin D, and thyroid hormone and their structural and functional analysis revealed an evolutionarily conserved template for nuclear hormone receptors. This discovery sparked identification of numerous genes encoding related proteins, termed orphan receptors.

Semiautomorphic Inverse Property Loops [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We define a variety of loops called semiautomorphic, inverse property loops that generalize Moufang and Steiner loops. We first show an equivalence between a previously studied variety of loops.

Revisiting Target‐Aware de novo Molecular Generation with TarPass: Between Rational Design and Texas Sharpshooter

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TarPass provides a rigorous benchmark for target‐aware de novo molecular generation by jointly evaluating protein‐ligand interactions, molecular plausibility, and drug‐likeness on 18 well‐studied targets. Results show that current models often fail to consistently surpass random baseline in target‐specific enrichment, while post hoc multi‐tier virtual ...

PPARs, RXRs, and Stem Cells

open access: yesPPAR Research, 2007
Welcome to this special issue of PPAR Research: PPARs, RXRs, and Stem Cells. Within the past decade, there has been a burgeoning interest regarding the mechanisms regulating stem cell regeneration and differentiation in embryonic and adult tissues. Recent studies have identified stem or progenitor cells within most, if not all, somatic tissues.

Vitamin D receptor, Retinoid X receptor and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ are overexpressed in BRCA1 mutated breast cancer and predict prognosis

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2017
Background BRCA1 mutated breast cancers are commonly diagnosed as negative for classical hormone receptors i.e. estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor and/or Her2.

Beyond the Min-Cut Bound: Deterministic Network Coding for Asynchronous Multirate Broadcast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In a single hop broadcast packet erasure network, we demonstrate that it is possible to provide multirate packet delivery outside of what is given by the network min-cut.

The liver X receptor pathway is highly upregulated in rheumatoid arthritis synovial macrophages and potentiates TLR-driven cytokine release [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
<p>Objectives: Macrophages are central to the inflammatory processes driving rheumatoid arthritis (RA) synovitis. The molecular pathways that are induced in synovial macrophages and thereby promote RA disease pathology remain poorly understood.</

Vitamins as potent cancer treatments through regulating the activity and expression of MMP‐2 and MMP‐9

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, EarlyView.
Vitamins could regulate both MMP‐2 and MMP‐9 expression and activity through transcriptional and MAPK signaling pathway modulation. This study highlights the potential of vitamins as low‐toxicity therapeutic or adjunct agents for targeting MMP‐mediated cancer progression. Abstract Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP‐2 and MMP‐9) are key regulators of cancer
