Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Distribution functions for the linear region of the S-N curve

open access: yesMaterials Testing, 2017
Abstract This study establishes a database containing the results of fatigue tests from the linear region of the S-N curve using sources from the literature. Each set of test results originates from testing metallic components on a single load level. Eighty-nine test series with sample sizes of 14 ≤ n ≤ 500 are included in the database, resulting in a ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Método de Curva Número: Herramienta para el Manejo de Recursos Hídricos

open access: yesSiembra
El método del Número de Curva o Curva Número fue desarrollado por el Servicio de Conservación de Suelos de los Estados Unidos (hoy Servicio de Conservación de Recursos Naturales, NRCS, por sus siglas en inglés) en 1954.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Study on Fatigue Life of Fractured Rock Under Constant Amplitude Cyclic Loading

open access: yesEarth Sciences Research Journal, 2018
The electro-hydraulic servo loading system was applied to make cyclic loading tests for fractured rock-like specimens. According to the results of the fatigue test, the power function model was used to fit and analyze the test data, and the fitting ...

Accuracy of determined S-N curve by selected models

open access: yesJournal of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, 2019
The study shows the models defining the relationship between the fatigue life and the stress amplitude. The first models have been developed at the beginning of the 20th century; however, new models are still being developed. The author decided to compare the most commonly used model, i.e.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.
