Centromeric DNA from Saccharomyces uvarum is functional in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
Chromosoma, 1986Previous comparisons of centromeric DNA sequences in laboratory strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae have revealed conserved sequences within 120 base pairs (bp) which appear to be essential for centromere function. We wanted to find out whether centromeric DNA in Saccharomyces strains with different degrees of DNA sequence divergence carry the same ...

Analysis of the nucleotide sequence of the GDH1 homologues from Saccharomyces bayanus strain CBS 380T and S. pastorianus strains showed that they share an almost identical sequence, SuGDH1*, which is a diverged form of the SuGDH1 from the type strain of the former species S. uvarum, considered as synonym of S. bayanus.

Growth and flocculation of two Saccharomyces uvarum strains
European Journal of Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1979The effects of vitamins, amino acids, proteins (casein) and carbohydrates upon cell growth and flocculation of two Saccharomyces uvarum strains on a synthetic medium were studied. One strain (SU 0019) was moderately, the other (SU 0006) very flocculent.

AbstractSaccharomyces cerevisiae NRRL Y‐2034, S, uvarum NRRL Y‐1347, and Zymomonas mobilis NRRL B‐806 each were separately immobilized in a Ca‐alginate matrix and incubated in the presence of a free‐flowing and continuous 1, 3, 5, 10, or 20% (w/w) glucose solution. In general, the yeast cells, converted 100percnt; of the 1, 3, and 5% glucose to alcohol

Mitochondrial DNA polymorphism of the yeast Saccharomyces bayanus var. uvarum
Microbiology, 2010Genetic relationships among forty-one strains of Saccharomyces bayanus var. uvarum isolated in different wine regions of Europe and four wild isolates were investigated by restriction analysis (RFLP) of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) with four restriction endonucleases, AluI, DdeI, HinfI and RsaI.

Interaction between Hanseniaspora uvarum and Saccharomyces cerevisiae during alcoholic fermentation
International Journal of Food Microbiology, 2015During wine fermentation, Saccharomyces clearly dominate over non-Saccharomyces wine yeasts, and several factors could be related to this dominance. However, the main factor causing the reduction of cultivable non-Saccharomyces populations has not yet been fully established. In the present study, various single and mixed fermentations were performed to

Viral dsRNA in the wine yeast Saccharomyces bayanus var. uvarum
Research in Microbiology, 2007The presence of viral dsRNA (L and M fractions) in the cryophilic yeast Saccharomyces bayanus var. uvarum is documented here for the first time. Sixty-eight strains of different origins were analyzed. Most of them did not carry dsRNA; the L fraction was found in seven strains, while 11 strains had both L and M fractions.

Genetic identification of Saccharomyces bayanus var. uvarum, a cider-fermenting yeast
International Journal of Food Microbiology, 2001Twenty-one Saccharomyces strains isolated from a cider process were analysed in terms of karyotypes, Y' S. cerevisiae sequence occurrence, rDNA structure and cross-fertility with species tester strains. A strong predominance of S. bayanus var. uvarum G. Naumov was found (18 strains vs. three S. cerevisiae). Among the S. bayanus var.

Genetic characterization of strains of Saccharomyces uvarum from New Zealand wineries
Food Microbiology, 2015We present a genetic characterization of 65 isolates of Saccharomyces uvarum isolated from wineries in New Zealand, along with the complete nucleotide sequence of a single sulfite-tolerant isolate. The genome of the New Zealand isolate averaged 99.85% nucleotide identity to CBS7001, the previously sequenced strain of S. uvarum.

Radiation induced formation of giant cells(Saccharomyces uvarum)
Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, 1984X-irradiated yeast cells (Saccharomyces uvarum) grown in liquid media stop mitosis and form giant cells. Chitin ring formation, being a prerequisite for cell separation, was studied by fluorescence microscopy using calcofluor white, a chitin specific dye.
