Our sense of balance is among the most central of our sensory systems, particularly in the evolution of human positional behavior. The peripheral vestibular system (PVS) comprises the organs responsible for this sense; the semicircular canals (detecting ...

The study investigates the shape of the semicircular canals in the inner ear of three sister mole species—Talpa europaea, Talpa aquitania, and Talpa occidentalis—using geometric morphometrics on 58 specimens. It finds both interspecific and intraspecific variability in canal morphology, but no evidence of sexual dimorphism.

High‐Resolution Visualization of the Human Semicircular Canals Using Optical Coherence Tomography
ABSTRACT The semicircular canals are essential sensors of the vestibular organ. Current clinical in vivo imaging techniques lack the resolution needed to visualize critical vestibular microstructures, such as the membranous labyrinth and crista ampullaris.

Calcium functional imaging with high-resolution CT in the inner ear
Although the otolith and otolith organs correlate with vertigo and instability, there is no method to investigate them without harmful procedures. We will create the technique for 3D microanatomical images of them, and investigate the in vivo internal ...

Subjective Visual Vertical and Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential in Meniere's disease
Objective: To evaluate otolith function by comparing the findings of the Subjective Visual Vertical, the cervical Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential and the ocular Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential tests in patients in the inter-crisis period of ...

Effect of Auditory Input on Sensory Organization and Fall Risk in Young Adults With Hearing Aids
The aim of this study was to document postural control, sensory organization, and fall risk parameters of auditory input using computerized post urography in bilaterally hearing‐aided young adults. It was observed that auditory input had a positive contribution to postural control and fall risk in young adult hearing aid users.

Morphology of the inner and peripheral ear of the loricariid catfish Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps K. [PDF]
The morphology of the peripheral and inner ear structures was studied in the loricariid catfish Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps. Specimens (n=6) were preserved in fixative (4% paraformaldehyde, 2% glutaraldehyde in 0.1M phosphate buffer) and dissected for ...
