Capacity of humic substances to complex with iron at different salinities in the Yangtze River estuary and East China Sea

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
The iron binding capacities (IBC) of fulvic acid (FA) and humic acid (HA) were determined in the salinity range from 5 to 40. The results indicated that IBC decreased while salinity increased.

CHANGES IN COMPOSITION OF FISH AND DECAPODS CATCHES ALONG SALINITY GRADIENT IN THE RAZDOLNAYA RIVER AND TOP OF THE AMUR BAY IN THE WARM PERIOD OF YEAR

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2018
Quantitative samples of fish, crabs and shrimps from the Razdolnaya estuary are analyzed. The area surveyed in May-September of 1990–2014 includes the internal estuary of this largest river of southern Primorye and its external estuary — the top of the ...

Further Development of Polyepichlorohydrin Based Anion Exchange Membranes for Reverse Electrodialysis by Tuning Cast Solution Properties

open access: yesMembranes, 2022
Recently, there have been several studies done regarding anion exchange membranes (AEMs) based on polyepichlorohydrin (PECH), an attractive polymer enabling safe membrane fabrication due to its inherent chloromethyl groups.

Distribution of intertidal macrobenthic assemblages in relation to environmental factors in the Tagus estuary, western Portugal

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2013
Fourteen intertidal sites from the eastern mid-region of the Tagus estuary were considered in order to study their macrobenthic assemblages in relation to environmental factors.

Response of the Coastal Phytoplankton Community to the Runoff from Small Rivers in the Northeastern Black Sea

open access: yesDiversity, 2023
River runoff is an important source of nutrients as well as suspended and dissolved organic matter that in coastal zones and on the shelf are transformed due to local production cycles. River runoff affects the hydrological regime, salinity, temperature,

Salinity-gradient power: Evaluation of pressure-retarded osmosis and reverse electrodialysis [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Membrane Science, 2007
A huge potential to obtain clean energy exists from mixing water streams with different salt concentrations. Two membrane-based energy conversion techniques are evaluated: pressure-retarded osmosis and reverse electrodialysis. From the literature, a comparison is not possible since the reported performances are not comparable.

Salinity gradient power generation in sinusoidal nanochannels

open access: yesThe Physics of Fluids
Salinity gradient power generation based on nanochannels has drawn much attention for its green and sustainable advantages. However, previous studies have tended to focus on regularly shaped nanochannels, while rough and irregular surfaces are naturally ...

The microbial food web along salinity gradients [PDF]

open access: yesFEMS Microbiology Ecology, 2000
The microbial food web was studied along a gradient of salinity in two solar salterns used for the commercial production of salt. The different ponds in the salterns provide a wide range of ecosystems with food webs of different complexities. Abundance of prokaryotes, cell volume, prokaryotic heterotrophic production, chlorophyll a, abundance of ...
