Further Development of Polyepichlorohydrin Based Anion Exchange Membranes for Reverse Electrodialysis by Tuning Cast Solution Properties

open access: yesMembranes, 2022
Recently, there have been several studies done regarding anion exchange membranes (AEMs) based on polyepichlorohydrin (PECH), an attractive polymer enabling safe membrane fabrication due to its inherent chloromethyl groups.

Characterization of Membranes for Membrane-Based Salinity-Gradient Processes

open access: yes, 2018
Pressure retarded osmosis (PRO) is one of the alternative applications for harvesting renewable energy by a natural phenomenon. As a particular free energy, the salinity gradient energy (SGE) from saline solutions with different concentrations has ...

Response of the Coastal Phytoplankton Community to the Runoff from Small Rivers in the Northeastern Black Sea

open access: yesDiversity, 2023
River runoff is an important source of nutrients as well as suspended and dissolved organic matter that in coastal zones and on the shelf are transformed due to local production cycles. River runoff affects the hydrological regime, salinity, temperature,

Model for evaluating the electric power output of Pressure Retarded Osmosis generation plants

open access: yesInternational Marine Energy Journal, 2020
In this work a mathematical model is assembled to evaluate the electric complex power and electric current output of pressure retarded osmosis (PRO)- based generation plants.

Ice blocks melting into a salinity gradient [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 1980
In our previous qualitative paper, it was shown that when a vertical ice surface melts into a stable salinity gradient, the melt water spreads out into the interior in a series of nearly horizontal layers. The experiments reported here are aimed at quantifying this effect, which could be of some importance in the application to melting icebergs ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Determination of salinity gradient power potential in Québec, Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Electrical energy can be produced from the chemical potential difference of two liquids with dissimilar salinities. This source of energy is known as salinity gradient power.

BEYOND THE SALINITY GRADIENT ENERGY HARVESTING

open access: yesStudia Universitatis Babes-Bolyai Chemia
Recently, salinity gradient energy – known as blue energy – has sparked the interest of researchers in identifying a new source of renewable energy, available at the contact between river water and seawater.

Synechococcus Assemblages across the Salinity Gradient in a Salt Wedge Estuary

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
Synechococcus are the most abundant and widely distributed picocyanobacteria in the ocean. The salt-wedge type of estuary possesses the complete horizontal and vertical gradient of salinity together with other physical and chemical parameters.
