2022There are two species of Salmonella. Only Salmonella enterica infects warm-blooded animals. The sub-species Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica is the only one to infect humans and other mammals. Infections of humans are the result of the ingestion of certain serotypes of Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica.
