A Two-Stage Stochastic Optimization Model for Cruise Ship Food Provisioning with Substitution

open access: yesMathematics
The global cruise industry has demonstrated remarkable growth, with modern ships functioning as large-scale floating resorts. Effective food provisioning is a critical operational function that directly impacts both cost efficiency and passenger ...

Limitations of the incidence density ratio as approximation of the hazard ratio

open access: yesTrials, 2019
Background Incidence density ratios (IDRs) are frequently used to account for varying follow-up times when comparing the risks of adverse events in two treatment groups.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Convergence Analysis of the Approximation Problems for Solving Stochastic Vector Variational Inequality Problems

open access: yesComplexity, 2020
In this paper, we consider stochastic vector variational inequality problems (SVVIPs). Because of the existence of stochastic variable, the SVVIP may have no solutions generally.

Sample average approximation with heavier tails II: localization in stochastic convex optimization and persistence results for the Lasso

open access: yes, 2018
We present exponential finite-sample nonasymptotic deviation inequalities for the SAA estimator's near-optimal solution set over the class of stochastic optimization problems with heavy-tailed random \emph{convex} functions in the objective and ...

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

A Novel Stochastic Framework for Integrated Airline Operation Planning: Addressing Codeshare Agreements, Overbooking, and Station Purity

open access: yesAerospace
This study presents an integrated optimization framework for fleet assignment, flight scheduling, and aircraft routing under uncertainty, addressing a core challenge in airline operational planning.

Identifying Effective Scenarios for Sample Average Approximation

open access: yes, 2019
We introduce a method to improve the tractability of the well-known Sample Average Approximation (SAA) without compromising important theoretical properties, such as convergence in probability and the consistency of an independent and identically distributed (iid) sample.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...
