Immune‐Mediated Thrombocytopenia in an Ulcerative Colitis Patient After Initiating Filgotinib Treatment: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 1, January 2026.
Timeline of events ABSTRACT Moderate‐to‐severe ulcerative colitis can be effectively treated with JAK‐1 inhibition, but platelet counts should be closely monitored, especially in active disease. We confirmed immune‐mediated thrombocytopenia (ITP) in one of our patients after the initiation of filgotinib. Whether this was drug‐induced is uncertain.

New proof-of-concept in viral inactivation: virucidal efficacy of 405 nm light against feline calicivirus as a model for norovirus decontamination [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The requirement for novel decontamination technologies for use in hospitals is ever present. One such system uses 405 nm visible light to inactivate microorganisms via ROS-generated oxidative damage.

Stewardship of Molecular Diagnostics in Transplant Viral Infections

open access: yesTransplant Infectious Disease, Volume 28, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
ABSTRACT The transplant environment requires special considerations when testing for viral infections as immunosuppression results in atypical infection profiles. Microbes otherwise considered commensals or causing mild disease can lead to severe infections in transplant environments. Therefore, guidelines tend to recommend broader microbial testing in

Effects of co-infection on the clinical outcomes of Clostridium difficile infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background: Clostridium difficile (C. difficile) is a spore-forming, Gram-positive rod that is known to be associated with antibiotic use. It is one of the leading causes of nosocomial diarrhea in the industrialized world and therefore warrants further ...

Norovirus and Sapovirus Epidemiology and Strain Characteristics among Navajo and Apache Infants.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Norovirus and sapovirus are important causes of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) among American Indian infants. We investigated the prevalence and molecular epidemiology of norovirus and sapovirus in American Indian infants who have historically experienced a

Seabird Diversity and Deterrence on Floating Oyster Cages

open access: yesAquaculture Research, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Off‐bottom oyster aquaculture involves the use of floating gear, which increases the surface area at the farm and provides roosting sites for seabirds. State authorities require oyster growers to have operational plans that outline mitigation or deterrent strategies to prevent interactions between birds and floating aquaculture gear.

Novel Recombinant Sapovirus, Japan

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2006
To the Editor: Sapovirus is the distinct genus within the family Caliciviridae; these viruses cause sporadic cases and outbreaks of gastroenteritis in humans worldwide (1). The sapovirus genome contains 2 open reading frames (ORFs). ORF1 encodes nonstructural and capsid proteins while ORF2 encodes a small protein (2).
