Analysis of the virtual baseline of cluster SAR satellites

IEEE International IEEE International IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2004. IGARSS '04. Proceedings. 2004, 2004
The change of the virtual baseline (equivalent baseline or projection of baseline) of cluster SAR satellites is analyzed when the constellation is circling around the Earth and at the same time the satellites are rotating around the center. This paper provides the assessment of baseline error, which influence on the precision of height measurement in ...

Compact and Free-Floating Satellite MIMO SAR Formations

IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2022
We discuss a coherent synthetic aperture radar (SAR) formation where N identical sensors transmit at the same time, code, and frequency. This is a particular multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) configuration, where the transmitted waveforms interfere together, resulting in an illumination pattern that randomly changes in space and time.

Spaceborne demonstration of coherent SAR tomography for future companion satellite SAR missions

2017 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS), 2017
This contribution is dedicated to present tomographic investigations on 3D vegetation imaging for future spaceborne SAR missions. The main problem to tackle when performing tomography via repeat-pass spaceborne data is that the temporal decorrelation between acquisitions can be very severe making it difficult to achieve reliable results.

L-band SAR-processor for the Chinese SAR Satellite

Proceedings. ICCEA 2004. 2004 3rd International Conference on Computational Electromagnetics and Its Applications, 2004., 2005
The SAR processor was developed for fast delivery of high-resolution images from the Chinese CRS-1 satellite based on Pentium IV technology. Through testing, all the following requirements were met at an acceptable hardware and software cost: fast delivery time; high resolution; high precision.

Satellite SAR and Human Settlement Detection

2007 Urban Remote Sensing Joint Event, 2007
Due to the peculiar features of human settlement areas, with enormous variance of objects and the resulting variability and possibly also ambiguity of data, such areas represent the most demanding cases for information extraction from SAR data. This research is particularly aimed at human settlement mapping at a regional scale.

Orbit maintenance and characteristics for a SAR satellite

AIAA/AAS Astrodynamics Specialist Conference and Exhibit, 1998
A newly proposed Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Earth-imaging mission, LightSAR, requires the orbit to be maintained within a 125-meter radius tube centered on a reference orbit over the lifetime of the satellite. Reference orbits were defined around 81° inclination with ground track closure of about 1 meter, and the radial closure of about 17 meters ...

A new SAR sensor designed for micro-satellites

2010 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2010
Micro Satellites (μSATs) are good opportunities for small countries. This paper describes a new design of a SAR for a μSAT. The centre frequency and the SAR processing were optimized in a way to allow the realization of a simple but capable system that provides many interesting opportunities for researchers and allows participating to international ...
