Programmable Multifunctional Bistable Structures for Energy Transfer and Dissipation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Utilizing the energy conversion characteristics of asymmetric bistable beams, this study develops a programmable multifunctional system composed of multiple bistable beams for energy transfer and dissipation. The high energy density enables the system to demonstrate potential in transient scenarios such as target delivery and shock absorption ...

Economic Impacts of Proposed Limits on Trans Fats in Canada [PDF]

open access: yes
In response to growing concerns about coronary heart disease (CHD), the Government of Canada has recently taken policy measures to reduce Canadian trans fatty acid (TFA) consumption. The mandatory labelling of trans fat content in foods began in December

Cortical Somatostatin Neurons Regulate Seizure Susceptibility via MINAR1/Gαs–cAMP Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study identifies MINAR1 as a novel regulator of cortical interneuron excitability and seizure susceptibility. MINAR1 is preferentially expressed in SST+ interneurons. Genetic ablation of MINAR1 leads to seizure hypersensitivity, reduced SST+ neuron excitability, and impaired Gαs–cAMP signaling, disrupting the E/I balance.

Pharmacological potential of endocannabinoid and endocannabinoid-like compounds in protecting intestinal structure and metabolism under high-fat conditions

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
The intestine plays a crucial role in nutrient absorption, digestion, and regulation of metabolic processes. Intestinal structure and functions are influenced by several factors, with dietary composition being one of the most significant.

Differential expression of cold- and diet-specific genes encoding two carp liver delta 9-acyl-CoA desaturase isoforms.

open access: yes, 2003
Carp respond to cold by the upregulated expression of Delta9-acyl-CoA desaturase. Here we report the cloning and characterization of Cds2, a second Delta9-acyl CoA-desaturase expressed in carp liver.

Diabetes Mellitus Facilitates Gallstone Formation Through CXCR2‐NETs–Mediated Liver‐Bile Barrier Damage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Diabetes is an independent risk factor for gallstones. It upregulates CXCR2 expression in hepatic neutrophils, stimulating the formation of NETs that disrupt hepatocellular tight junctions and the liver‐bile barrier. NETs enter bile to accelerate gallstone development, while sarcosine inhibits CXCR2 and NETs production, effectively reducing diabetes ...
