Designing and Analyzing Savonius Wind Turbines
Volume 4: Dynamics, Vibration, and Control, 2019Abstract Savonius wind turbines are drag-type vertical axis wind turbines. Their blades experience less drag while moving against the wind flow and more drag while moving in the wind direction. The drag difference rotates Savonius wind turbines and produces electrical power. Savonius wind turbines can catch wind from any direction.

Layout optimization of Savonius-turbine clusters and investigation of linear Savonius wind farms
2019Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are compact, costless, less noisy and operate at low cut-in wind speed, which are promising for applications in urban environment. Their performance could be further improved by coupling with each other constructively in clusters.

Performance tests on helical Savonius rotors
Renewable Energy, 2009Conventional Savonius rotors have high coefficient of static torque at certain rotor angles and a negative coefficient of static torque from 135° to 165° and from 315° to 345° in one cycle of 360°. In order to decrease this variation in static torque from 0° to 360°, a helical Savonius rotor with a twist of 90° is proposed.

Numerical Investigation of Savonius Wind Turbines
2023In this study, we aimed to explore the potential of integrating wind turbines into tall buildings to harness wind energy in urban areas. Advanced computer simulations will be used to analyze the complex wind patterns and turbulence around tall buildings. We will also study the optimization of wind turbine placement to maximize energy production.

Computational Study of Savonius Wind Turbines
Volume 7: Fluids Engineering Systems and Technologies, 2014This work presents a computational study of a two-blade and a three-blade Savonius vertical axis wind turbines. The two-blade turbine was considered to be oriented at 0, 45, 90, and 135 degrees in reference to the direction of the prevailing wind.

Analyzing the Potential of Savonius Wind Turbines for Low-Wind Energy Areas
2024 9th International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Agricultural Engineering (EE&AE)The primary objective of this paper was to design a small-scale Savonius wind turbine well suited for providing autonomous power to an embedded system. We analyzed the potential of energy production using a vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT), which is a ...
