Increasing Risks of Suicide Attempt and Suicidal Drug Overdose After Head Trauma in Patients With Sleep-Disordered Breathing: A Population-Based Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2020
Objective: To determine the risks of suicide attempt (SA) and suicidal drug overdose (SDO) after head trauma in patients with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) by using the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan. Methods: We analyzed the ...

Kaila's Reception of Hume [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In this paper, I discuss Eino Kaila's (1890-1958) understanding of David Hume. Kaila was one of the leading Finnish philosophers of the 20th century and a correspondent of the Vienna Circle.

Effects of Hold Time on the Elevated Temperature Fatigue Crack Growth Behavior of Alloy 247LC‐DS

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, Volume 49, Issue 5, Page 1794-1808, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Creep–fatigue crack growth (CFCG) experiments were performed at 850°C and 950°C on nominally 12.70‐mm‐thick compact‐type specimens of alloy 247LC‐DS, a Ni‐base superalloy. The loading cycles consisted of trapezoidal waveforms with hold times of 2 and 20 min at the maximum force.

Tourette Syndrome as a Disorder of the Social Decision Making Network

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychiatry, 2019
Tourette syndrome is a common neurodevelopmental disorder defined by the presence of tics, stereotyped involuntary movements and phonations. Considerable evidence points to developmental abnormalities of the basal ganglia as tic substrates. Basal ganglia

Birman's conjecture for singular braids on closed surfaces

open access: yes, 2003
Let $M$ be a closed oriented surface of genus $g\ge 1$, let $B_n(M)$ be the braid group of $M$ on $n$ strings, and let $SB_n(M)$ be the corresponding singular braid monoid.

Environmental governance in the face of collapse: The case of Acapulco, Mexico, between tourist splendour and ecological risk

open access: yesEcological Solutions and Evidence, Volume 7, Issue 2, April/June 2026.
Underwater clean‐up efforts in Acapulco Bay reveal the visible consequences of chronic coastal pollution. This study shows how Environmental Risk Assessments (ERAs) can integrate scientific evidence, regulatory frameworks and practitioner experience to identify pollution sources and guide more effective coastal governance in cities of the Global South.

MeV-scale sterile neutrino decays at the Fermilab Short-Baseline Neutrino program

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
Nearly-sterile neutrinos with masses in the MeV range and below would be produced in the beam of the Short-Baseline Neutrino (SBN) program at Fermilab. In this article, we study the potential for SBN to discover these particles through their subsequent ...

Additive and Partially Dominant Effects from Genomic Variation Contribute to Rice Heterosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 20, 9 April 2026.
Additive and partially dominant effects, namely at mid‐parent levels or values between mid‐parent and parental levels, respectively, are the predominant inheritance patterns of heterosis‐associated molecules. These two genetic effects contribute to heterosis of agronomic traits in both rice and maize, as well as biomass heterosis in Arabidopsis ...

Incidence of small bowel neoplasia in Lynch syndrome assessed by video capsule endoscopy

open access: yesEndoscopy International Open, 2017
Background and study aims Lynch syndrome (LS) patients have an increased risk of small bowel cancer. The question is whether surveillance will lead to early detection of (pre)malignant lesions. We recently reported on prevalence of small bowel neoplasia (

A characterization of Blaschke addition

open access: yes, 2014
A characterization of Blaschke addition as a map between origin-symmetric convex bodies is established. This results from a new characterization of Minkowski addition as a map between origin-symmetric zonoids, combined with the use of L\'{e}vy-Prokhorov ...
