Methods and tools for assessing the vulnerability of forests and people to climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Adaptation is necessary for reducing the impacts of climate change on forests and societies. So far, forests, forest ecosystem services, and forest-dependent people or sectors have not been adequately represented in adaptation studies or policies, even ...

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Adolescent internet adaptability: A scale adaptation study

open access: yesODÜ Sosyal Bilimler Araştırmaları Dergisi (ODÜSOBİAD)
In today's rapidly digitalising world, adolescents' intensive use of the Internet presents both developmental opportunities and a range of psychosocial risks. Internet addiction, cyberbullying, and other challenges encountered in digital environments can adversely affect adolescents' psychological resilience and social adjustment.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Scale Adaptive Robotics

open access: yes
Scale Adaptive Robotics (SAR) represents a novel class of robots characterized by a ubiquitous design capable of adapting functional capabilities and physical interactions across different scales. This pioneering concept, introduced in this work, demonstrates how a bioinspired SAR design can be developed and implemented using scalable actuators ...

Rate and cost of adaptation in the Drosophila Genome

open access: yes, 2014
Recent studies have consistently inferred high rates of adaptive molecular evolution between Drosophila species. At the same time, the Drosophila genome evolves under different rates of recombination, which results in partial genetic linkage between ...

Class IIa HDACs forced degradation allows resensitization of oxaliplatin‐resistant FBXW7‐mutated colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
HDAC4 is degraded by the E3 ligase FBXW7. In colorectal cancer, FBXW7 mutations prevent HDAC4 degradation, leading to oxaliplatin resistance. Forced degradation of HDAC4 using a PROTAC compound restores drug sensitivity by resetting the super‐enhancer landscape, reprogramming the epigenetic state of FBXW7‐mutated cells to resemble oxaliplatin ...

Does Changing a Scale’s Context Impact Its Psychometric Properties? A Comparison Using the PERMA-Profiler and the Workplace PERMA-Profiler

open access: yesMerits
The present study evaluated the empirical distinction between the PERMA-Profiler and the Workplace PERMA-Profiler, which measure flourishing using the same items with different contexts (i.e., general vs. workplace orientations).
