Limit points of the iterative scaling procedure [PDF]
The iterative scaling procedure (ISP) is an algorithm which computes a sequence of matrices, starting from some given matrix. The objective is to find a matrix 'proportional' to the given matrix, having given row and column sums. In many cases, for example if the initial matrix is strictly positive, the sequence is convergent.

Defective flow space limits the scaling up of turbulence bioreactors for platelet generation
To complement donor-dependent platelets supplies, we previously developed an ex vivo manufacturing system using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived expandable immortalized megakaryocyte progenitor cell lines (imMKCLs), and a turbulent flow ...

Scaling Laws and Thermodynamic Limits of Modular Thermoelastic Energy Harvesting from Low-Grade Heat
Low-grade thermal energy is widely available in industrial waste-heat streams and natural temperature fluctuations, yet its utilization remains limited because of weak thermodynamic driving forces and the complexity of conventional heat-engine ...

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Random curves, scaling limits and Loewner evolutions [PDF]
In this paper, we provide a framework of estimates for describing 2D scaling limits by Schramm's SLE curves. In particular, we show that a weak estimate on the probability of an annulus crossing implies that a random curve arising from a statistical ...

Gravity and scaling laws of city to city migration.
Models of human migration provide powerful tools to forecast the flow of migrants, measure the impact of a policy, determine the cost of physical and political frictions and more. Here, we analyse the migration of individuals from and to cities in the US,

Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

The supereigenvalue model in the double-scaling limit [PDF]
The double-scaling limit of the supereigenvalue model is performed in the moment description. This description proves extremely useful for the identification of the multi-critical points in the space of bosonic and fermionic coupling constants. An iterative procedure for the calculation of higher-genus contributions to the free energy and to the multi ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.
