Scaphoid fracture and scaphoid pseudarthrosis
Der Orthopäde, 1999Careful diagnostic and early therapy are especially important in cases of scaphoid fractures. This is due to the patients being mostly young and the high number of non-unions of these carpal bones. Conservative and various operative treatments are therapeutical options.

Fracture of the scaphoid is the most common injury of the carpus. Inadequate treatment frequently leads to non-union, which causes pain and serious disability. In the present study 134 scaphoid fractures treated during the period 1961-70 are reviewed.

Scaphoid fractures are the most common carpal bone fracture, usually occurring in young men, although the incidence in women has increased over the past decade. Snuffbox tenderness and/or pain with axial loading of the thumb should be treated as a scaphoid fracture until proved otherwise and the diagnosis confirmed with serial radiographs and/or ...

Scaphoid Fracture as a “Puncherʼs Fracture”
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, 1994We investigated 18 scaphoid fractures induced by punching. The wrist position while punching was neutral to slight palmar flexion. We postulated that the mechanism of the fracture was caused by the concentration of the external force to the second metacarpus.

Scaphoid Fractures in Athletes
Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 2020Scaphoid fractures are common injuries in athletes. Most can be treated with cast immobilization, with an expected rate of union of 90% to 95%. Cast treatment, however, has the disadvantages of longer immobilization time, joint stiffness, reduced grip strength, and longer time to return to manual work or athletics.

Fractures of the immature carpal scaphoid can be challenging to manage. The diagnosis may be missed or delayed because of absent or minimal symptoms. Once diagnosed, most pediatric scaphoid fractures can be successfully treated with cast immobilization. However, this is inadequate for difficult and unique cases.

An unusual fracture of the scaphoid
The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1983A case of unusual displacement of the proximal pole of an acute scaphoid fracture is presented. The usual mechanism of scaphoid fracture, dorsiflexion of the wrist, probably did not pertain in this case. We believe that a palmar hyperflexion injury to the wrist drove the proximal pole through the dorsal capsule.

Management of Scaphoid Fractures
Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, 2017Learning Objectives: After reading this article, the participant should be able to: 1. Understand the epidemiology, classification, and anatomy pertinent to the scaphoid. 2. Appropriately evaluate a patient with suspected scaphoid fracture, including appropriate imaging. 3.

Scaphoid fractures in children are uncommon. A high index of suspicion is required in children when clinical signs and symptoms indicate a scaphoid fracture in a child. Radiographic evaluation with multiple views should be performed to assess for fracture. If necessary, advanced imaging studies such as MRI should be performed.
