Cellular cholesterol regulates expression of the macrophage type B scavenger receptor, CD36

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1999
CD36, the macrophage type B scavenger receptor, binds and internalizes oxidized low density lipoprotein (OxLDL), and may potentially play a role in the development of atherosclerosis.

CD81 and claudin 1 coreceptor association: role in hepatitis C virus entry. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is an enveloped positive-stranded RNA hepatotropic virus. HCV pseudoparticles infect liver-derived cells, supporting a model in which liver-specific molecules define HCV internalization.

Upcycling of Disposable Face Masks into Water‐Resistant and Flame Retardant Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Disposable mask waste is upcycled into lightweight polypropylene‐based foams with tunable porosity and composite architectures reinforced by ear‐loop fibers. The sustainable solvent‐based process enables upcycling rates of 91% and solvent recovery of >90%.

Plasma clearance and liver uptake of chylomicron remnants generated by hepatic lipase lipolysis: evidence for a lactoferrin-sensitive and apolipoprotein E-independent pathway

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1999
Chylomicrons labeled with [3H]cholesterol and [14C]triglyceride fatty acids were lipolyzed by hepatic lipase (HL) in vitro and then injected intravenously into normal mice fed low- or high-fat diets, and into apolipoprotein (apo) E-deficient mice.

Identification of Scavenger Receptor Ligands

open access: yes, 2011
Scavenger receptors (SRs) are structurally diverse but functionally related innate immune receptors involved in defence and clearance mechanisms. Their broad specificity relies on evolutionarily conserved pattern recognition domains which interact with a variety of microbial, apoptotic and modified self ligands.

Engineering a Sonotherapeutic RBC Membrane‐Derived Nanoparticle Platform for the Treatment of Liver Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, an RBC membrane‐derived nanoparticle (CMN‐ICG) is engineered to efficiently deliver a sonosensitizing agent, indocyanine green (ICG), for sonotherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). CMN‐ICG exhibits excellent cytocompatibility, significantly enhances hepatocyte uptake, and produces excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon ultrasound ...

Chronic Trypanosoma cruzi infection potentiates adipose tissue macrophage polarization toward an anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype and contributes to diabetes progression in a diet-induced obesity model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Chronic obesity and Chagas disease (caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi) represent serious public health concerns. The interrelation between parasite infection, adipose tissue, immune system and metabolism in an obesogenic context, has not been ...
