Scavenger receptor class B type I reduces cholesterol absorption in cultured enterocyte CaCo-2 cells1

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2004
Scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI) mediates selective uptake of cholesteryl esters from HDL as well as efflux of cellular free cholesterol to HDL. It is unclear whether the receptor is involved in intestinal cholesterol absorption.

A dynamical model of the adaptive immune system: effects of cells promiscuity, antigens and B-B interactions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
We analyse a minimal model for the primary response in the adaptive immune system comprising three different players: antigens, T and B cells. We assume B-T interactions to be diluted and sampled locally from heterogeneous degree distributions, which mimic B cells receptors' promiscuity.

Gasotransmitters in Modern Medicine: Promises and Challenges in the Use of Porous Crystalline Carriers

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective provides an overview of the growing interest in utilizing various gasotransmitters—small gaseous signaling molecules namely nitric oxide (NO), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrogen sulfide (H2S)—for several therapeutic applications, with emphasis on the potential use of porous materials as carriers to provide safe and controlled local ...

Functionalized Cerium Oxide Nanoparticles Enhance Penetration into Melanoma Spheroids In Vivo through Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Melanoma cell spheroid engraftment is optimized in the chicken chorioallantoic membrane overcoming the complexity of other in vivo models. Using this model, greater penetration of cerium oxide nanoparticles (nanoceria) functionalized with heparin in spheroids is observed via enhancement of vascularization than nanoceria alone.

Self‐Healing Hydrogel Dressing with Solubilized Flavonoids for Whole Layer Regeneration of Diabetic Wound

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
High glucose‐ and acid‐responsive hydrogel with dynamic covalent bond solubilized with flavonoids (Gel‐Flavonoids) is designed for diabetic wound healing. The Gel‐Flavonoids adapt to irregular wound shapes and release antioxidants in high‐glucose environments, effectively reducing reactive oxygen species.

Scavenger receptor-BI is a receptor for lipoprotein(a)

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2013
Scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI) is a multi-ligand receptor that binds a variety of lipoproteins, including high density lipoprotein (HDL) and low density lipoprotein (LDL), but lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] has not been investigated as a possible ...

Covalent Organic Frameworks for Photocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review provides an overview of recent advances in covalent organic frameworks (COFs) for photocatalysis, focusing on sustainable energy applications like water splitting, hydrogen peroxide generation, and CO2 and N2 reduction. It discusses design principles, structure‐function relationships, challenges in COF photocatalysis, and strategies to ...

ApoE-dependent sterol efflux from macrophages is modulated by scavenger receptor class B type I expression

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2002
Macrophages express a number of proteins involved in sterol efflux pathways, including apolipoprotein E (apoE) and scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI).

How biochemical resources determine fundamental limits in cellular sensing [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Living cells deploy many resources to sense their environments, including receptors, downstream signaling molecules, time and fuel. However, it is not known which resources fundamentally limit the precision of sensing, like weak links in a chain, and which can compensate each other, leading to trade-offs between them.

Off‐The‐Shelf Multivalent Nanoconjugate Cancer Vaccine Rescues Host Immune Response against Melanoma

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A star‐shaped cross‐linked polyglutamate (StCl) nanocarrier delivers melanoma‐associated peptide antigens via redox‐responsive linkers, inducing lymph node‐targeted antigen presentation. The nanoconjugate activates dendritic cells, promotes effector T‐cell responses, and enables tumor regression even in humanized patient‐derived preclinical models ...
