In human monocytic cells THP‐1, a limited uptake of native—not oxidized—LDL/VLDL induced expression of scavenger receptor A and cellular adhesion. Induction was inhibited by lysosomotropic (WR‐1065) and lipophilic (BHT) antioxidants and by siRNAs against ferritinophagy.

CARDIOPROTECTION BY HIGH DENSITY LIPOPROTEIN IS MEDIATED BY THE SCAVENGER RECEPTOR CLASS B TYPE 1 [PDF]
Cardiovascular disease and cancer are the leading causes of death in Canada and are a major burden to the health of developed societies. Three quarters of all cardiovascular related deaths are due to ischemic heart disease and heart attack. Doxorubicin

Menopause leads to elevated expression of macrophage-associated genes in the aging frontal cortex: rat and human studies identify strikingly similar changes. [PDF]
BACKGROUND The intricate interactions between the immune, endocrine and central nervous systems shape the innate immune response of the brain. We have previously shown that estradiol suppresses expression of immune genes in the frontal cortex of ...

Matrix: a complex amalgam of structures and functions in tumor microenvironment
The matrix is a dynamic, intricate three‐dimensional mesh of biomolecules with both structural and functional properties. This review deals with the complexity of this ‘molecular amalgam’ in the tumor microenvironment and highlights its importance in the maintenance and evolution of tumors by describing certain matrix biomolecules, such as ...

Apolipoprotein M promotes cholesterol uptake and efflux from mouse macrophages
Apolipoprotein M (ApoM) exhibits various anti‐atherosclerotic functions as a component of high‐density lipoprotein (HDL) particles. Scavenger receptor class B type I (SR‐BI) is a classic HDL receptor that mediates selective cholesterol uptake and ...

Alpha-tocopherol metabolism is abnormal in scavenger receptor class B type I (SR-BI)-deficient mice.
Despite the physiologic importance of vitamin E, in particular its alpha-tocopherol (alpha-T) isoform, the molecular mechanisms involved in the cellular uptake of this antioxidant from plasma lipoproteins have not been well-defined.

Protective Effects of Human and Mouse Soluble Scavenger-Like CD6 Lymphocyte Receptor in a Lethal Model of Polymicrobial Sepsis [PDF]
Sepsis still constitutes an unmet clinical need, which could benefit from novel adjunctive strategies to conventional antibiotic therapy. The soluble form of the scavenger-like human CD6 lymphocyte receptor (shCD6) binds to key pathogenic components from

Roles of reconstituted high-density lipoprotein nanoparticles in cardiovascular disease: A new paradigm for drug discovery [PDF]
Epidemiological results revealed that there is an inverse correlation between high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels and risks of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).

The Regulation of Trace Metal Elements in Cancer Ferroptosis
The induction of ferroptosis inhibits tumor growth, enhances anticancer efficacy, and overcomes drug resistance. Recent evidence shows nonferrous metal elements play a role in ferroptosis. This review focuses on how trace metals regulate ferroptosis processes like iron accumulation, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant defense.
