Abstract Objectives Schistosomiasis and tegumentary leishmaniasis simultaneously affect areas in tropical and subtropical regions. Co‐infected individuals show a less‐than‐optimal response to treatment and increased regulatory immune responses. However, no study has determined where Schistosoma–Leishmania co‐infections are more likely to occur ...

Schistosoma mansoni cercariae exploit an elastohydrodynamic coupling to swim efficiently [PDF]
The motility of many parasites is critical for the infection process of their host, as exemplified by the transmission cycle of the blood fluke Schistosoma mansoni. In their human infectious stage, immature, submillimetre-scale forms of the parasite known as cercariae swim in freshwater and infect humans by penetrating through the skin.

Schistosoma haematobium–Schistosoma mansoni Hybrid Parasite in Migrant Boy, France, 2017
Schistosomiasis is frequently detected in persons entering Europe. In 2017, we detected a Schistosoma mansoni–Schistosoma haematobium hybrid parasite infection in a migrant boy from Côte d’Ivoire entering France.

Prevalence of S. haematobium in persistent hot-spot and low-prevalence shehias Table 1 shows the prevalence of S. haematobium in children visiting the primary schools located in any of the seven study shehias, stratified by survey year. The average S. haematobium prevalence across all three survey years in 9 – 12 years old schoolchildren was 20.0 % (95

Hybrid Molecules as Efficient Drugs against Multidrug‐Resistant Malaria Parasites
Among hybrid molecules currently developed as antimalarial drug candidates, emoquine‐1 exhibits high activity against all the multidrug‐resistant Plasmodium strains tested up to now, including artemisinin‐resistant quiescent parasites, critical parameters for promising antimalarial drugs. It is also curative in mouse malaria.

Modeling the prevalence of Schistosoma mansoni infection in an endemic population [PDF]
We investigate theoretically if treatment alone can reduce the schistosomiasis's prevalence in an infected population, in a long-lasting sustainable way. We use a non-linear system of ordinary differential equations (a SI system combined with a logistic population growth) which describes the time evolution of the non-infected and infected populations ...

Identification of Schistosoma mansoni microRNAs [PDF]
Abstract Background MicroRNAs (miRNAs) constitute a class of single-stranded RNAs which play a crucial role in regulating development and controlling gene expression by targeting mRNAs and triggering either translation repression or messenger RNA (mRNA) degradation. miRNAs are widespread in eukaryotes and to date over

Bacterial Outer Membrane Vesicles: From Physics to Clinical
A review of an introduction to the mechanisms of formation of OMVs, their action on bacteria and relationship to disease, vaccines, biomonitoring, drug delivery and regenerative medicine in the clinic. ABSTRACT Bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are nanoscale vesicular structures naturally produced by Gram‐negative bacteria during growth.

Critical Role of Skin in Pathogenesis: Bidirectional Crosstalk Between Skin and Multiple Organs
The skin functions as both a protective barrier and an autonomous immune organ, maintaining dynamic interactions with internal organs. This review analyzes skin‐organ crosstalk mechanisms, highlighting key cytokines (particularly IL‐17A) and microbial metabolites that mediate interorgan communication.
