The association of steroids and schistosomicides in the treatment of experimental schistosomiasis
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1989The best therapeutic approach to acute schistosomiasis (Katayama fever) is still unsettled. In this paper we report a synergistic effect between schistosomicides and steroids in the treatment of the early stages of Schistosoma mansoni infection in the mouse. CBA mice infected with 150 S.

Potent Schistosomicidal Constituents from Garcinia brasiliensis
Planta Medica, 2015Praziquantel is the drug of choice for the treatment of schistosomiasis. However, several strains of Schistosoma mansoni are resistant to praziquantel, making it necessary to discover new drugs that might be used for its treatment. With this in mind, the properties of a schistosomicidal ethanolic extract of Garcinia brasiliensis Mart.

Drug resistance to schistosomicides and other anthelmintics of medical significance
Acta Tropica, 1994It is usual for people to be infected for some period in life with parasitic worms, which may cause morbidity or even kill. Anthelmintics are used for the treatment and control of the human helminthiases, since no vaccines are yet available. Despite the widespread use of these compounds, drug resistance has become apparent only with antischistosomal ...

Synthesis of substituted arylazothioxanthones as potential schistosomicidal agents
Archives of Pharmacal Research, 1989A series of 1-chloro-4-methyl-6-arylazo-9H-thioxanthen-9-ones were synthesized and schistosomicidal activity evaluated. It was found that, 1-chloro-4-methyl-6-(2-hydroxy-1-naphthylazo)-9H-thioxanthen-9-one possessed a promising activity againstSchistosoma mansoni in mice.

Mode of action of the schistosomicide Hycanthone: site of DNA alkylation
Molecular and Biochemical Parasitology, 1990Condensation of hycanthone N-methylcarbamate (HNMC) with deoxyguanosine (dG) furnished a mixture of the N-1 and N2 adducts which were purified and characterized as their acetates. Condensation of HNMC with thymidine (T) gave the N-3 adduct in poor yield. Adenosine (A) and cytidine (C) did not react with HNMC.

Condensed p-Toluidines with Aminothiazoles as Schistosomicidal Agents II
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1971Compounds representing structural combinations between the two moieties necessary for the biological activity in both schistosomicidal agents, 1-(β-diethylaminoethylamino)-4-methylthiaxanthone and 1-(5-nitro-2-thiazolyl)-2-imidazolidinone (p-toluidine and 5-nitrothiazole, respectively), have been synthesized.
