Laser ignition of iso-octane air aerosols [PDF]
Iso-octane aerosols in air have been ignited with a focused Nd:YAG laser at pressures and temperatures of 100kPa and 270K and imaged using schlieren photography. The aerosol was generated using the Wilson cloud chamber technique.

Background-oriented schlieren (BOS) for scramjet inlet-isolator investigation [PDF]
Background-oriented Schlieren (BOS) technique is a recently invented non-intrusive flow diagnostic method which has yet to be fully explored in its capabilities.

Making sound visibleāa simple schlieren imaging setup for schools
Sound is an interesting topic for physics lessons at all ages. However, it is difficult to illustrate this ubiquitous phenomenon and many models do not adequately represent the properties of sound and thus promote unwanted conceptions.

Secondary Injection of Gases into a Supersonic Flow [PDF]
The flow field around the injection port for secondary injection of a gas normal to a supersonic stream has been studied in a series of wind-tunnel experiments. The experiments were conducted at freestream Mach numbers of 1.38 to 4.54.

Enhancing laser cladding stability: defects and schlieren-based analytics during L-DED
A schlieren system, adapted for Laser Directed Energy Deposition, was used to monitor and analyze the process zone under various conditions, including deliberate contamination and parameter limits. This approach enabled the identification and correlation

A mechanism for high-frequency oscillation in ramjet combustors and afterburners [PDF]
An experimental investigation was made of the behavior of a small two-dimensional combustion chamber, burning a uniform mixture of air and fuel vapor under conditions of high-frequency oscillation or screech.

Development of low vacuum laser welding technique using an aerodynamic window
In order to realize deep laser welding, conceptual application of a supersonic jet as an aerodynamic window was investigated. Detailed characteristics of the supersonic jet as the aerodynamic window were studied experimentally.

The influence of turbulence on the structure and propagation of enclosed flames [PDF]
Although it has long been established that burning rates can be appreciably increased by turbulence, the actual extent of this increase and the precise mechanism involved are still far from clear.

Reactant Jetting in Unstable Detonation [PDF]
We note the common existence of a supersonic jet structure locally embedded within a surrounding transonic flow field in the hitherto unrelated phenomena of unstable gaseous detonation and hypervelocity blunt body shock wave interaction. Extending prior
