Asymmetrically Fluorinated Phenyl 4‐biphenylcarboxylate Motifs as a Design Principle for Enantiotropic Ferroelectric Liquid Crystals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The effect of the structural arrangement of DIO and its analogs on ferroelectric phases is explored. Consequently, it is found that an asymmetrically fluorinated phenyl 4‐biphenylcaroboxylate skeleton is one of the favorable structural motifs for the emergence of enantiotropic ferroelectric liquid crystal phases.

Quenching accumulation of toxic galactose-1-phosphate as a system to select disruption of protein-protein interactions in vivo

open access: yesBioTechniques, 2004
The reverse two-hybrid system has been developed to readily identify molecules or mutations that can disrupt protein-protein interactions in vivo. This system is generally based on the interaction-dependent activation of a reporter gene, whose product ...

Immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy-associated encephalitis: a case series and review of the literature

open access: yesSwiss Medical Weekly, 2020
BACKGROUND Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) can cause a wide spectrum of immune-related adverse events, including encephalitis. To date, no prospective randomised controlled trials examining the patient characteristics, treatment and ...

Association of BMI with adherence and outcome in heart failure patients treated with wearable cardioverter defibrillator

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1295-1303, April 2025.
Abstract Background Obesity is a known risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD), yet an ‘obesity paradox’ has been observed in various CVD contexts. The impact of obesity on heart failure (HF) patients treated with a wearable cardioverter‐defibrillator (WCD) remains underexplored.

A Custom-Built Piezo-Optical System for Visualization and Characterization of High Intensity Focused Ultrasound

open access: yesCurrent Directions in Biomedical Engineering
High intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) is a noninvasive treatment technique to induce thermal or mechanical bioeffects. Characterising the wave field is essential for reliable and reproducible transducer operation in clinical use. This paper presents a

Flow visualisation of a normal shock impinging over a rounded contour bump in a Mach 1.3 free-stream [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
An experimental study has been conducted to visualise the instantaneous streamwise and spanwise flow patterns of a normal shock wave impinging over a rounded contour bump in a Mach 1.3 free-stream.
