A data-driven iteratively regularized Landweber iteration

open access: yes, 2020
We derive and analyse a new variant of the iteratively regularized Landweber iteration, for solving linear and nonlinear ill-posed inverse problems.

Ro5‐4864, a ligand of the mitochondrial translocator protein, protects against heart failure in mice via regulation of the p62‐Keap1‐Nrf2 axis

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Graphical abstract of the proposed Ro5‐4864 mechanism of action via p62‐Keap1‐Nrf2 axis in heart failure. TSPO, the 18‐kDa mitochondrial translocator protein of the outer mitochondrial membrane, can directly interact with p62 (also known as SQSTM1), which is crucial for the degradation of damaged mitochondria by autophagy ...

Suspended liquid particle disturbance on laser-induced blast wave and low density distribution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The impurity effect of suspended liquid particles on the laser-induced gas breakdown was experimentally investigated in quiescent gas. The focus of this study is the investigation of the influence of the impurities on the shock wave structure as well as ...

Smartphone Schlieren

open access: yes, 2016
We present a schlieren system comprised of 3D printed optical mounts, a sub-$10 mirror, and a smartphone camera. The system is intended to make schlieren imaging accessible to K-through-12 students, educators, as well as hobbyists. In the manuscript, we detail the design of the system, provide source files for continued iteration, and show some example

Methods for Setting Device Specifications for Analog In‐Memory Computing Inference

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
Non‐volatile memories (NVMs) are being developed for analog in‐memory computing for energy‐efficient, high‐speed deep learning inference. As technology is moving to industry adoption, a method to define required NVM specifications is critical for improving performance and reducing manufacturing cost.

Cross-modality transfer for DED-LB/M: AI-based prediction of schlieren phenomena from coaxial imaging

open access: yesAdditive Manufacturing Letters
Real-time process monitoring is essential for ensuring stability and defect control in directed energy deposition - laser beam/metal (DED-LB/M). Schlieren imaging has proven to be a valuable tool for detecting refractive index variations in the process ...

A length-scale analysis of instabilities in high pressure explosion flames, [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Cellular flame structure in high pressure iso-octane-air explosion flames, obtained in the Leeds combustion bomb, was investigated using Schlieren cinematography and OH laser induced fluorescence.

Shock‐Assisted Flow Control System in Convergent‐Divergent Nozzle: A Numerical Study on Unconventional Protuberance With Different Geometry

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
A numerical investigation using 3D RANS simulations demonstrates significant effects of protuberance geometry—cubic, cylindrical, spherical, and conical—on shock‐induced thrust vectoring in supersonic nozzles. Cubic protuberances provide the maximum jet deflection (˜2°) with negligible thrust reduction.

Preclinical efficacy and safety of an anti-IL-1β vaccine for the treatment of type 2 diabetes

open access: yesMolecular Therapy: Methods & Clinical Development, 2014
Neutralization of the inflammatory cytokine interleukin-1β (IL-1β) is a promising new strategy to prevent the β-cell destruction, which leads to type 2 diabetes.
