Simplified Free-Flight Testing in a Conventional Wind Tunnel [PDF]

open access: yes, 1962
In order to incorporate the advantages of ballistic range testing with the convenience of wind tunnel testing, simplified techniques have been developed at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for free-flight testing of models in a conventional wind ...

Design Strategies for Compact Photoluminescent Liquid Crystals Based on Fluorinated Tolane Frameworks

open access: yesThe Chemical Record, Volume 26, Issue 5, May 2026.
This account highlights molecular design strategies for fluorinated tolane derivatives that integrate mesomorphic order with photoluminescence. The extent to which the fluorination pattern and flexible chain architecture govern the structure–property relationships to realize highly emissive and thermally tunable liquid–crystalline systems is elucidated.

A Comparison of the Morphology and Stability of Relativistic and Nonrelativistic Jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We compare results from a relativistic and a nonrelativistic set of 2D axisymmetric jet simulations. For a set of five relativistic simulations that either increase the Lorentz factor or decrease the adiabatic index we compute nonrelativistic simulations

Garnet–Clinopyroxene Double‐Layered Coronae in a Metagabbronorite From the High‐Grade Metamorphic Gföhl Unit, Moldanubian Zone

open access: yesJournal of Metamorphic Geology, Volume 44, Issue 4, Page 311-336, May 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigates garnet–clinopyroxene double‐layered coronae in a metagabbronorite from the high‐grade metamorphic Gföhl Unit (Bohemian Massif). The coronae formed at the interfaces between relic magmatic orthopyroxene, still preserved in the cores of the coronae, and the plagioclase‐rich rock matrix.

The oral ferroportin inhibitor vamifeport prevents liver iron overload in a mouse model of hemochromatosis

open access: yesHemaSphere
Hemochromatosis is an inherited iron overload condition caused by mutations that reduce the levels of the iron‐regulatory hormone hepcidin or its binding to ferroportin.

Detonation interaction with an interface [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Detonation interaction with an interface was investigated, where the interface separated a combustible from an oxidizing or inert mixture. The ethylene-oxygen combustible mixture had a fuel-rich composition to promote secondary combustion with the ...

Emissive Liquid Crystalline Boron C,N‐Chelates: Synthesis, Self‐assembly, and Photophysical Properties

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 32, Issue 15, 22 April 2026.
Novel emissive liquid crystalline boron C,N‐chelates were prepared by integrating mesogenic units into the boron C,N‐core. Depending on the substituent at the boron, stable SmA or N mesophases were achieved while maintaining intense blue emission with excellent quantum yields (61%–100%).

Contrasting Effects of Chronic Glucokinase Activation and Inhibition on Pancreatic Beta‐Cell Function

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 7, 15 April 2026.
In the non‐diabetic beta‐cell (top left) activation of glucokinase (bottom left) leads to inhibition of mitochondrial metabolism and thereby impairs insulin secretion. The effect is similar to that of chronic hyperglycaemia as seen in the diabetic beta‐cell (top right).
