Challenges in the Heterologous Production of Furanocoumarins in Escherichia coli

open access: yesMolecules, 2022
Coumarins and furanocoumarins are plant secondary metabolites with known biological activities. As they are present in low amounts in plants, their heterologous production emerged as a more sustainable and efficient approach to plant extraction. Although

An Integrated Metabolomics and Bioactivity Approach to Characterize Salvia heldreichiana and Salvia tomentosa Extracts

open access: yesChemistryOpen, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2026.
S. heldreichiana and S. tomentosa can be considered as effective sources of natural bioactive agents for further in vivo pharmacological evaluation and development. The genus Salvia, widely known as sage, represents the largest group within the Lamiaceae family and includes numerous species with traditional uses.

Copper(II) Sulfate Stimulates Scopoletin Production in Cell Suspension Cultures of

open access: yesNatural Product Communications, 2017
Plant tissue cultures represent an attractive alternative source of valuable natural substances. Many strategies have been proposed for improving production yields, among others, elicitation with heavy metals. In this work, the effect was investigated of

ERF Transcription Factor NaERFIDOG Regulates JA‐Induced Defence and Growth Inhibition in Nicotiana attenuata Upon Alternaria alternata Infection

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 10, Page 5266-5283, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Jasmonate (JA) regulates defence responses in plants. However, JA‐induced defence often results in growth inhibition. This process is largely mediated by MYC2, the master regulator of JA signalling. Nevertheless, the underlying molecular mechanisms have not yet been fully uncovered.

Production of Two Isomers of Sphaeralcic Acid in Hairy Roots from Sphaeralcea angustifolia

open access: yesPlants, 2023
The Sphaeralcea angustifolia plant is used as an anti-inflammatory and gastrointestinal protector in Mexican traditional medicine. The immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects have been attributed to scopoletin (1), tomentin (2), and sphaeralcic ...

Phytotoxic Effects of Ethanolic Extracts of Magonia pubescens A.St.‐Hil. (Sapindaceae) on the Germination of Emilia sonchifolia (L.) DC. Seeds

open access: yesChemistry &Biodiversity, Volume 23, Issue 9, September 2026.
Ethanolic extracts from Magonia pubescens exhibit concentration‐dependent allelopathic activity against Emilia sonchifolia. Leaf extracts strongly inhibit seed germination and seedling growth, surpassing glyphosate under the tested conditions, whereas intermediate concentrations stimulate germination, indicating hormesis.

Microbiome‐mediated plant‐soil feedbacks as a tool for resilient agriculture

open access: yesiMetaOmics, Volume 3, Issue 3, September 2026.
Translating plant‐soil feedbacks (PSFs) into reliable agricultural management requires shifting from input‐dependent practices toward endogenous, process‐driven crop resilience. To bridge this gap, we propose a predictive framework centered on three strategic interventions: engineering the crop holobiont, diversifying the soil habitat, and deploying ...
