Interlayer Repulsion of Retinal Ganglion Cell Mosaics Regulates Spatial Organization of Functional Maps in the Visual Cortex [PDF]
In higher mammals, orientation tuning of neurons is organized into a quasi-periodic pattern in the primary visual cortex. Our previous model studies suggested that the topography of cortical orientation maps may originate from moiré interference of ON ...

Conformable Ferrimagnetic Tattoo Electrodes for Plant Electrophysiology
The newly developed ferrimagnetic tattoo electrode is capable of measuring plant electrophysiological activity outside the Faraday cage. Its ability to adhere without damaging the plant tissue allows long‐term recordings. This premise opens new avenues for in‐field monitoring of plant health through electrophysiology.

Current genome‐reduction methods work in a trial‐and‐error fashion, constituting a long‐standing bottleneck in the research. We developed CREAT (CRISPR‐based genome trimming with a multi‐homology‐arm template), a CRISPR‐based genetic approach that enables systematically classifying essential versus non‐essential genomic regions and subsequently ...

Controllable Ge Hut Wires With Mobilities Exceeding 20 000 cm2 V−1 s−1
The controlled growth of germanium hut wires on patterned SiGe/Si(001) substrates is reported. These self‐assembled nanowires achieve a record hole mobility of 22 900 cm2 V−1 s−1 at 4.2 K. Remarkably, conductance quantization is observed at a channel length of 1.9 µm, highlighting their exceptionally low disorder and paving the way for scalable, high ...
