Stiffness‐Programmable Origami Robots With Tendon‐Driven Actuation via Multimaterial 3D Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Motion diversity is achieved in a tendon‐driven origami robot through programmable stiffness rather than modified actuation. Multimaterial 3D printing embeds soft creases, modular inserts redirect identical tendon inputs into distinct behaviors, and variable‐stiffness inserts enable real‐time switching.

High-Value Components and Bioactives from Sea Cucumbers for Functional Foods—A Review

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2011
Sea cucumbers, belonging to the class Holothuroidea, are marine invertebrates, habitually found in the benthic areas and deep seas across the world. They have high commercial value coupled with increasing global production and trade.

A Pentaradial and Bilateral Combined Photoreception System in the Sea Cucumber is Mediated by a Blue Light‐Sensitive R‐Opsin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The sea cucumber Holothuria leucospilota detects blue and adjacent wavelengths of light via an r‐opsin with a maximum absorption at 459 nm. In the oral tentacles, papillae, and tube feet, distinct light‐sensing structures with specialized morphologies are formed, constituting a unique pentaradial and bilateral combined photoreception system.

Tandem Duplication‐Driven Neofunctionalization of UDP‐Glycosyltransferases Shapes the Diversification of Triterpenoid Saponins in the Cucurbitaceae

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a chromosome‐level genome assembly of Siraitia grosvenorii and, through comparative genomics, uncover a conserved UGT73 tandem array driving triterpenoid saponin diversification in Cucurbitaceae. Crystalized SgUGT73AM30 further reveals the regioselectivity mechanism underlying its catalytic activity.

Profiles and Biological Values of Sea Cucumbers: A Mini Review

open access: yesLife Sciences, Medicine and Biomedicine, 2018
Sea cucumbers, blind cylindrical marine invertebrates that live in the ocean intertidal beds have more than thousand species available of varying morphology and colours throughout the world. Sea cucumbers have long been exploited in traditional treatment

Modeling of the Elements Ca2+, Mg2+ and Si in the Sediments and the Body Walls of Sea Cucumbers in the Tropical Seagrass Meadows

open access: yesDiversity, 2023
The interrelationship of the minerals calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+) and silicon (Si) in the sediments and in the body walls of four tropical sea cucumber species was explored by modeling the concentrations of these minerals.

Nanomaterials for Allergy Diagnosis and Treatment: Advances, Opportunities and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanomaterials offer dual applications in allergy management. For diagnosis, nanomaterials enhance analytical sensitivity and improve detection in specific IgE and functional assays such as the basophil activation test (BAT). For allergen‐specific immunotherapy, nanomaterials enable allergen masking and controlled release, and effectively modulate the ...

Biomimetic Self‐Reconfigurable Soft Gripper for Cross‐Scale, Multi‐Particle, and High‐Load Multifunctional Manipulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A fully soft, self‐reconfigurable gripper inspired by rapeseed flowers is monolithically 3D‐printed and electronics‐free, switching between diagonal and parallel finger arrangements. Establishing a self‐reconfigurable grasping paradigm, the gripper enables diverse manipulation tasks, including rotating bulbs, picking fruits, grasping cross‐scale ...

Endogenous Proteases in Sea Cucumber (Apostichopus japonicas): Deterioration and Prevention during Handling, Processing, and Preservation

open access: yesFoods
The sea cucumber is an essential nutrient source and a significant economic marine resource associated with successful aquaculture. However, sea cucumbers are highly susceptible to autolysis induced by endogenous protease after postmortem, and the ...

Oral Delivery Systems for Food‐Derived Bioactive Peptides: Enhancing Stability, Bioavailability, and Health Benefits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Advanced delivery systems—including nanoparticles, nanoemulsions, liposomes, and hydrogels—protect food‐derived bioactive peptides from gastrointestinal degradation and bitterness. These systems enable pH‐responsive release, enhance intestinal absorption, and improve therapeutic efficacy against oxidative stress, metabolic disorders, cancer, and ...
