SEA SURFACE ALTIMETRY BASED ON AIRBORNE GNSS SIGNAL MEASUREMENTS [PDF]

open access: yesISPRS Annals of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2012
In this study the focus is on ocean surface altimetry using the signals transmitted from GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) satellites. A low-altitude airborne experiment was recently conducted off the coast of Sydney.

Variations in sea surface roughness induced by the 2004 Sumatra-Andaman tsunami [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Observations of tsunamis away from shore are critically important for improving early warning systems and understanding of tsunami generation and propagation. Tsunamis are difficult to detect and measure in the open ocean because the wave amplitude there

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Reconstruction of the Surface Inshore Labrador Current from SWOT Sea Surface Height Measurements

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
Utilizing a high-resolution (2-km) coastal ocean model output off Eastern Newfoundland, this paper explores the potential for reconstructing the sea surface height (SSH) and the surface inshore Labrador Current from high-resolution SSH data of the ...

THRESHOLD DETERMINATION FOR LOCAL INSTANTANEOUS SEA SURFACE HEIGHT DERIVATION WITH ICEBRIDGE DATA IN BEAUFORT SEA [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2018
The NASA Operation IceBridge (OIB) mission is the largest program in the Earth’s polar remote sensing science observation project currently, initiated in 2009, which collects airborne remote sensing measurements to bridge the gap between NASA’s ICESat ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

A Novel GTU-Net Model for Sea Surface Height Prediction

open access: yesOcean-Land-Atmosphere Research
Sea surface height (SSH) is a crucial indicator in the study of ocean dynamics, climate change, and air–sea interactions. Accurately predicting the evolution of SSH is essential for understanding ocean circulation, eddy activities, and related processes,

Evaluation of the Potential of Laser Shock Peening Compared with Cold Expansion for Improving Fatigue Resistance of Riveted Lap Joints of Aerospace Grade 7175 Al Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser shock peening for enhancing fatigue performance of riveted aerospace aluminum joints. A comparative approach with cold expansion combines fatigue testing and synchrotron X‐ray methods. Integrating mechanical testing with residual stress and strain characterization provides insights into how different treatments affect the ...

Determining Variability in Arctic Sea Ice Pressure Ridge Topography With ICESat‐2

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2022
We investigate the characteristics and distribution of pressure ridges in Arctic sea ice using a novel algorithm applied to ICESat‐2 surface heights. We derive the frequency and height of individual pressure ridges and map surface roughness and ridging ...
