Food inflation pass‐through from agricultural imports in a small open economy

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper develops a new framework for quantifying cost pass‐through in a small open economy by estimating firm‐level markup responses to agricultural import price shocks. We show theoretically that markup adjustments depend on firms' reliance on imported inputs and demand curvature, generating heterogeneous inflationary effects across firm ...

The 9+ month marathon: How pregnancy may have shaped human endurance capacities

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Anthropology has long considered the evolution of our uniquely human endurance capacities to be the result of selection upon anatomical and physiological features imposed by the demands of thermoregulation and resource acquisition, particularly during the demands of persistence hunting. Research has focused on the anatomical changes present in

Improvement in Physicochemical, Microbial, and Sensory Properties of Common Squid (Todarodes pacificus Steenstrup) by Superheated Steam Roasting in Combination with Smoking Treatment

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality, 2019
The common squid (Todarodes pacificus) is one of the most widely consumed food ingredients in East Asian countries, especially Korea and Japan. It is generally marketed raw, which leads to inconvenient preparation, less commercial value, and short shelf ...

Investigating the Heat Stability and Inactivation Conditions of Decapod Iridescent Virus 1 (DIV1)

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat treatment effectively inactivates decapod iridescent virus 1 (DIV1) under milder conditions than current WOAH recommendations. DIV1 infectivity was eliminated at 56°C for 30 min, 60°C for 15 min, or 70°C for 1 min, providing optimized heat treatment strategies for aquaculture biosecurity and seafood safety.

Precautions for seafood consumers: An updated review of toxicity, bioaccumulation, and rapid detection methods of marine biotoxins

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Seafood products are globally consumed, and there is an increasing demand for the quality and safety of these products among consumers. Some seafoods are easily contaminated by marine biotoxins in natural environments or cultured farming processes.

Integrating One Health to Mitigate the Emergence and Spread of Antimicrobial Resistance in Livestock and Aquaculture

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an escalating global threat driven by antimicrobial use in aquaculture and livestock. Resistant pathogens and genes can spread across humans, animals, and the environment through interconnected ecosystems. Using a One Health approach, this review emphasizes antimicrobial stewardship, regulatory strengthening, enhanced ...

The sRNA vvrr1 Modulates the VarS/VarA‐Csr System via LeuO to Regulate Biofilm Formation and Virulence in Vibrio alginolyticus

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
vvrr1, a small RNA, post‐transcriptionally represses the transcriptional regulator LeuO, which directly inhibits the VarS/VarA two‐component system. This triggers a Csr cascade that relieves LuxO repression, ultimately modulating exopolysaccharide production to control biofilm formation and virulence in Vibrio alginolyticus.
