Prospective subtyping of head and neck basal cell carcinoma by dermoscopy and handheld RCM

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Handheld reflectance confocal microscopy, alone or with dermoscopy, increases specificity, maintains high sensitivity and improves diagnostic confidence for head and neck basal cell carcinoma. It may offer a non‐invasive alternative to confirmatory biopsies when planning micrographically controlled surgery in clinically high‐risk cases.

Life stage impact on the human skin ecosystem: lipids and the microbial community

open access: yesnpj Biofilms and Microbiomes
Sebaceous free fatty acids are metabolized by multiple skin microbes into bioactive lipid mediators termed oxylipins. This study investigated correlations between skin oxylipins and microbes on the superficial skin of pre-pubescent children (N = 36) and ...

Synergistic Effects of Solar Exposure and Skin Sensitivity on Skin Aging: A Clinical Study Using Multimodal Noninvasive Measurements. [PDF]

open access: yesSkin Res Technol
ABSTRACT Background Solar exposure is the primary extrinsic factor contributing to skin aging. Sensitive skin, characterized by impaired barrier function and heightened reactivity, may be more vulnerable to solar‐induced damage. However, the potential interaction between skin sensitivity and solar exposure in accelerating skin aging has not been ...

Associations between diet quality and adult acne: A cross sectional study in the UK Biobank

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Mediterranean‐style diet adherence was associated with lower odds of adult acne, particularly in women. In men, a low‐carbohydrate, high‐meat dietary pattern showed higher odds. Cooked vegetables and yoghurt were inversely associated, whereas pork, skimmed milk and milk‐based desserts showed positive associations.

Influence of pH-control in phosphoric acid treatment of zinc oxide

open access: yesCerâmica
Zinc oxide is often used as a white pigment for cosmetics; however, it shows photocatalytic activity that causes decomposition of sebum on the skin when exposed to the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight.

Early systemic intervention for vitiligo: A prospective bicentric interventional study

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Patients with non‐segmental vitiligo were enrolled into three groups according to the duration and activity of their disease. All subjects received NB‐UVB phototherapy and an oral mini‐pulse of systemic corticosteroids twice weekly for 6 months. Early systemic treatment allows better repigmentation, including in difficult‐to‐treat areas.

Modulation of sebocyte function in acne: A pathway‐inclusive review

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Acne is multifactorial, with the sebocyte acting as a central immunometabolic hub linking lipogenic, inflammatory, hormonal and barrier pathways. Mapping established and investigational therapies onto this sebocyte‐centred model offers a mechanism‐based framework that complements existing treatment paradigms and may guide more targeted, antibiotic ...

Squamous Odontogenic Tumor: A Systematic Review

open access: yesOral Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Squamous odontogenic tumor is a rare benign epithelial odontogenic neoplasm whose overlapping features with other odontogenic lesions may hinder diagnosis and management. This systematic review analyzed clinical, radiographic, histopathological characteristics and treatment outcomes of SOT.
