Genetic composition for secaline genes was studied in four short stem rye populations (Bolgarskaya korotkostebelnaya, Gnom 1, Gnom 2, and Gnom 3) using the methods of classical hybridological analysis and population genetics. Eight, three, and four alleles of the genes Sec-3, Sec-2 Sec-1 correspondingly have been revealed in the studied populations ...

Allozyme variation in rye, Secale cereale L.
Theoretical and Applied Genetics, 1987Eleven samples of eight European commercial varieties of winter rye were examined at eight polymorphic enzyme loci. Genotype frequencies fitted Hardy-Weinberg expectations at all loci in all samples studied. Of the total genetic diversity recorded at the 8 loci, only 7% was expressed between varieties.

Meiosis in Autotetraploid Secale cereale
Botanical Gazette, 19431. Meiosis in autotetraploid Secale cereale is characterized by multivalent associations, inversion or duplication bridges, univalent bridges, univalent laggards and nonlaggards, irregular anaphase distributions, and chromosome loss. 2. The degree of anaphase irregularity is so low as to indicate that the spindle mechanism is as precise in the ...

Transgenic Cereals: Secale cereale and Sorghum bicolor (rye and sorghum)
1999Rye, Secale cereale L., was first domesticated in Central Asia, Afghanistan, Tibet and Iran. Although world rye grain production decreased from 33.4 million tons in 1990 to 22.6 million tons in 1995, European rye production slightly increased during this period (FAO 1996).
