Compliant Pneumatic Feet with Real‐Time Stiffness Adaptation for Humanoid Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A compliant pneumatic foot with real‐time variable stiffness enables humanoid robots to adapt to changing terrains. Using onboard vision and pressure control, the foot modulates stiffness within each gait cycle, reducing impact forces and improving balance. The design, cast in soft silicone with embedded air chambers and Kevlar wrapping, offers durable,

Genome‐Wide by Lifetime Environment Interaction Studies of Brain Imaging Phenotypes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study explores genome‐wide by lifetime environment interactions on brain imaging phenotypes. Gene‐environment interactions explain more phenotypic variance than main effects, pinpoint regulatory variants, and reveal exposure‐specific biological pathways.

Robotic Materials With Bioinspired Microstructures for High Sensitivity and Fast Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In the review paper, design rationale and approaches for bioinspired sensors and actuators in robotics applications are presented. These bioinspired microstructure strategies implemented in both can improve the performance in several ways. Also, recent ideas and innovations that embed robotic materials with logic and computation with it are part of the

Bounded solutions of nonlinear hyperbolic equations with time delay

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2018
We consider the initial value problem $$\displaylines{ \frac{d^{2}u}{dt^{2}}+Au(t)=f(u(t),u(t-w)), \quad t>0, \cr u(t)=\varphi (t),\quad -w\leq t\leq 0 }$$ for a nonlinear hyperbolic equation with time delay in a Hilbert space with the self adjoint

Two Novel S‐methyltransferases Confer Dimethylsulfide Production in Actinomycetota

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies two novel S‐adenosine‐methionine‐dependent methyltransferases, MddM1 and MddM2, in actinomycetes from the Mariana Trench. These enzymes can convert toxic hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and methanethiol (MeSH) into dimethylsulfide (DMS), serving as a cellular detoxification and oxidative stress response.

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

KINETIC-INDUCED MOMENT SYSTEMS FOR THE SAINT-VENANT EQUATIONS

open access: yesTASK Quarterly, 2013
Based on the relation between kinetic Boltzmann-like transport equations and nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws, we derive kinetic-induced moment systems for the spatially one-dimensional shallow water equations (the Saint-Venant equations).

Conservation Laws, Soliton Dynamics, and Stability in a Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation with Second-Order Spatiotemporal Dispersion

open access: yesMathematics
This paper presents the construction of exact wave solutions for the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with second-order spatiotemporal dispersion using the modified exponential rational function method (mERFM).

Nonlinear monotonization of the Babenko scheme

open access: yesMathematical Modelling and Analysis, 2003
The goal of the paper is to present and test the nonlinear monotonization of the Babenko scheme for solving 2D linear advection equation with alternating‐sign velocities.

Relationship Between Knowledge and Compliance With Safety Measures: Evidence From COVID‐19

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Compliance with health safety protocols is important for protecting public health, particularly in agricultural sectors where disease outbreaks can disrupt production and market access. Despite its economic significance, we know little about what drives protocol compliance.
